I've been doing a bit of 'dangerous' thinking and also wondered about T1. If in the plans T1 was to be demolished then there is a large slice of empty ground space.

We know that Pier C is basically being retained and I think that Pier B was to be retained. So if T1 goes then Pier B has to be served by corridor from either T2 or T3. Should BA really be interested in seriously developing from Manchester then maybe, just maybe, something could be done with a T1 reconfiguration - especially over the period before TP becomes a reality?

Any thoughts

I don't know what could be done in the mid to long term. In the short term T1 should be okay, but in the 20-30 year timeframe I expect the present T1/3 site to be completely redeveloped.

Looks okay, as with most things the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. Renderland is usually different from reality and this project has also gone through several rounds of value engineering.

Clearly this will be a major improvement on what's there now, and should provide the launch pad for the next 10-20 years of, we hope, continued growth.

Certainly some mixed, but predominantly negative views on the walk through.

My opinion is that expectations were set too high by the June 2015 renders. Those indicated a blank canvas of a massive brand new terminal building and high quality piers covered in glass giving the entire development a light and airy feel.

Those expectations have fallen by the wayside as actual olanned renders have emerged.

I have not problem, in principle, of an airport terminal being a glorified shopping/eating area. Provided it is functional and has the appropriate premium facilities MAN needs to attract top of the market airline customers.

I think much more can be made of the Central atrium. Perhaps as a extension along the shopping arcades of raising the height of the building (buildings if you found the old and new separately). I hope they can tweak this to give the building a lighter and less stuffy feeing - even if it requires an expansion of the footprint or height (ie a new olanning consent).

Let's see what happens.

Just wondering what the plan is for Faireys Apron. I believe temporary fencing is being currently errected. is this just a move to prevent random vehicles from driving close to aircraft doing maintenance ground engine runs in the area or is it a move maybe to make it airside and so enabling mainly Jet2 aircraft more overnight parking in the proxomity of thier hangar?

I can confirm that the western maintenance area, also known as Fairey's apron will be reclassified as "airside", hence the fencing.

OAN 21 / 2017 – UPGRADE OF AERONAUTICAL GROUND LIGHTING (AGL) CONTROL SOFTWARE

1.0 SUMMARY
A three day programme of works to upgrade the AGL control software serving Runway 05L-23R. The work will only take place during westerly single operations (Runway 23R) and outside of Low Visibility Procedures (LVP).
2.0 PROGRAMME
2.1 Works are programmed to take place on Tuesday, 14th, Wednesday, 15th and Thursday, 16th March 2017.
2.2 Overall, the daily working times will be between 07:30 – 16:00hrs (local)
2.3 Work elements that result in the operational implications listed within item 4.0 below will take place outside of scheduled dual runway operations and between the hours of 10:30 – 16:00 (local).
3.0 SCOPE
3.1 Upgrading, commissioning and testing of AGL control software serving Runway 05L-23R. 3.2 The purpose of this work is twofold:  Enabling works for the forthcoming full depth reconstruction of Taxiway Juliet. This will facilitate the use of Taxiway Mike (RHP M1) as the principal Runway 05L-23R entry and exit point during LVP with Runway Holding Position (RHP) J1 being closed throughout the future Juliet works.  Enabling works to embed the required AGL changes in advance of adopting a future 05L-23R LVP intersection(s) aircraft entry (departures) and exit (arrivals) operation.
4.0 OPERATIONAL IMPLICATIONS (10:30 – 16:00hrs, local)
4.1 Runway Operations
4.1.1 The airport will revert to Single Runway Operations (SRO) on Runway 05L-23R at the current scheduled times of 10:30 – 16:00hrs (local).
4.1.2 The work can only proceed during 23R (westerly) SRO, paragraph 5.2 refers further. 4.1.3 All required 23R Approach and Runway AGL services will be displayed throughout.
4.2 Stopbars
4.2.1 All Runway Holding Positions (RHP) stopbars and their associated Runway Guard Lights (Wig-Wags) will remain lit and fully serviceable during each of the daily works period.
4.2.2 Northside taxiways’ Intermediate Holding Positions (IHP) stopbars will remain unlit during each of the daily works period.
4.3 Taxiway AGL
4.3.1 Northside taxiway centreline AGL will remain unlit during each of the daily works period. 5.0 WEATHER MINIMA & OTHER OPERATIONAL CONSTRAINTS
5.1 Work will be postponed in the event that the weather is forecasted to deteriorate below the following minima: Visibility 2000m and / or 400ft cloud ceiling.
5.2 The work can only proceed during 23R (westerly) SRO. As such, work will be postponed if an easterly (05L) SRO is forecasted.

EXTENDED DUAL RUNWAY OPERATING HOURS All times quoted in this Operational Advice Notice are local.
Monday to Friday (inclusive) Runway 05L/23R and 05R/23L will be in operation between 06:30hrs - 10:30hrs and 13:00hrs – 20:00hrs. Runway 05L/23R will be in operation as a single runway at all other times.
Saturday Runway 05L/23R and 05R/23L will be in operation between 06:30hrs - 10:30hrs and 13:00hrs – 16:00hrs. Runway 05L/23R will be in operation as a single runway at all other times.
Sunday Runway 05L/23R and 05R/23L will be in operation between 16:00hrs - 20:00hrs only. Runway 05L/23R will be in operation as a single runway at all other times.

Thanks for posting this information @Scottie Dog ;)
Other than noise, is there any specific reason why 05R/23L can't be in operation on Saturday 1300-200hrs, like it is on weekdays?

I don't have specific reason for you, however I understand that there are fewer movements on a Saturday afternoon than on weekdays (historically this was due to less scheduled - Flybe etc - flights). Whether this is still true or not I don't know.

Yes, I'm sure movements after 16.00 Saturday don't justify dual runway ops. In fact I'm rather surprised they don't make it 12.00 - 15.00 rather than an hour later. Because of the early wave of departures, arrivals can be pretty busy between 12.00 and 13.00. Whether there is a lack of departures in that hour, I'm not sure. Likewise on Sundays, I'd have thought 12.00-16.00 was just as busy as 16.00-20.00, but maybe flybe flights are a factor later on Sunday.

Okay, thank you. What is wrong with 1030-1300 though? That is a busy time so why is this not dual runway? Thanks again.

As far as I know, there is an agreement with local residents (Knutsford and Mobberly?) to only use 23L/05R for a limited number of hours until the volume of traffic requires longer opening periods. At one time, R2 was open until 12.00 and re-opened at 15.00 I think, but times have been adjusted to reflect periods of higher traffic levels.

Why is the second runway currently not in use? According to the above times, it should be at this time

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
