Manchester: Infrastructure, Developments and Construction

Use this prefix for new threads for Manchester Airport
That may well be right - if the structure is within the confines of an airfield (and is an airfield operational structure) it might be a permitted development?

Stand 10 to be closed for 4 weeks from 12th September for installation of modular 2nd storey extension to passenger lounge - with link bridge from Pier B.

Seems to be a good sign that the lounges are being extended. Sounds like it has been necessary this summer.

Roll on the TP, which should have spades in the ground next month.

According to a post by Dobbo, on another thread, work is due to start in the next months (or so) on the Manchester Airport Transformation Project.

With this in mind I thought it would be an idea to create a new thread specifically for news with regards to TP - and other construction related items - which do not appear to fall under any of the other thread titles.

Please feel free to correct me if I have missed an existing thread.

To start us of, but already posted by myself under the general thread:

A programme of works lasting circa 4 weeks to install a second storey to the existing passenger lounge extension on Stand 10. Work will commence on Monday 12th September and be completed by Friday 14th October 2016.

Do we have any more info on the finger piers and/or the number/size/airlines with lounges planned for the new terminal?

Slightly outdated now, but not previously reported on here:

Stands 217-219 plus 247 & 249 were brought back into operational use earlier in the summer following a long period of being used for car parking.

Stands 214 and 215 are being reconfigured to enable use by Code E aircraft (Boeing 747-400) on 214.

From MAGWorld's website:

Upon completion of the works, the new stand capacities will be;  213: 7S9 (Boeing 737-900 Scimitar)  214: 744 (Boeing 747-400)  214L: 7S9 (Boeing 737-900 Scimitar)  215: 75T (Boeing 757-300 Winglets).

Work will take place between Wednesday 28th and Friday 30th September (0930-1600).

If a Boeing 747 is on stand 214 then stand 215 will be unuseable.

Presumably this reconfiguration is a reflection of the increasing use of the B77W? In particular SQ?

UPDATE......(revised closure dates)

Stand 10 to be closed until 21st October for installation of modular 2nd storey extension to passenger lounge - with link bridge from Pier B.

I have some new renders of T2 but cannot link at this time. Will do so when I get home later.

Good to see this moving forwards.

Have the high level plans changed much?

I get what it is the second image is showing, but I have no idea precisely what the top image shows?

Is it the face of the expanded terminal building?

Re the brutalist design, take a look at the design access statement(!)

What does the statement say? Not got a great zoom?

The first image is indeed the landside frontage.

It's not what it says but what it shows.

From memory (I don't have a copy to hand) it was the document that revealed that the present T2 was being expanded via a "bolt on" North Eastern extension rather than a complete new build.

Despite the wording in the statement the design was, pardon the pun, many shades of black and grey...

One interesting point to emerge from this is that the finger pier is (i think) "pier 4" (i.e. the one at the far end of the new taxiway). When compared with the flythrough video, it looks like a slight repositioning and a change of plan, as the far pier was planned to be the final one developed.

Although it may be the USPBC facility?

BTW - does anyone know if the lounges supposed to be in the main building or the finger piers, or both?

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
