Fair point.Maybe weather had an impactShouldn`t need to you have 10,000 feet of runway there
The A380 didn't become a regular service until after the extension.Nothing to do with weather or runway length.
Emirates operated for years out of BHX using A330, 777W and the A380 before the extension from 8,500 feet they also operate the 777W from Newcastle which has just over 7,500 feet with a longer routing to Dubai.
True the A380 started regular ops. after the extension it did however operate a one off service to celebrate BHX''s 70th anniversary along with the opening of the international pier in 2009.The A380 didn't become a regular service until after the extension.
Wonder what the loads was on the B77W on tonight’s Emirates.Went short tonight on take off from R33.I might be dramatic
Think I heard tiny rumours of a Third daily service but I believe LHR taken that slot...and to answer your questions, since the start of 2025, all EK/QR/SV flights have need operating pretty much full. the Averages load factor for the 77W since the start of 2025 has been 96% i believe...
B77W hopefullyLHR took the EK flight number that was used for the original BHX 3rd daily flight. But that won’t stop EK adding a 3rd daily to BHX if they wanted to. It’s not slot related.
The LHR one isn’t a permanent service, the slots that one uses isn’t owned by emirates, EK35-42 are northern England numbered servicesLHR took the EK flight number that was used for the original BHX 3rd daily flight. I could have sworn that the one-off A380 in 2009 did not carry a full load, just the normal amount that would have otherwise been on the 777.Carried a full load both ways if I recalll correctly acting as a publicity exercise and also proving the aircrafts compatibility with the airport.
When was this mate? Not absolutely sure but I did speak to a travel agent at the time in Solihull who had been advertising the flight and they said it was sold out
Either way we are lucky to have the big beast as a regular visitor![]()
My recollection was that it was empty of passengers and was asked to appear for the 70th anniversary of BHX.I could have sworn that the one-off A380 in 2009 did not carry a full load, just the normal amount that would have otherwise been on the 777.
Yep 9/9/2009 - think it's all sorted now.It was in September 2009 (if memory serves me right). The 039 / 040 operated as an A380 but was limited to a 777 passenger load (just in case there was an operational issue). I was lucky enough to be invited as a guest of Emirates to be in the International Pier to see the flight both arrive and depart.
There was a development A380 sent in by Airbus around that period maybe that's what your thinking of?My recollection was that it was empty of passengers and was asked to appear for the 70th anniversary of BHX.
Unfortunately i threw out the Birmingham Evening Mail that covered the A380 arrival. Front page story at the time!.
Yes, it could well be that one.Yep 9/9/2009 - think it's all sorted now.
