So, why are Emirates far more busier at Manchester and not Birmingham, is it because of airport charges or demand or anything else.

Kier starmer tax increases that’s why mate.Dont wanna bring politics in this forum but I have to make point

unless taxes differ between MAN, BHX, and LHR - spoiler they don't - then increased UK APD is not why there is difference in demand from the three airports

try again :)

The figures at MAN have always been higher than at BHX, just as the figures at LHR have always been higher than at MAN. Absolutely nothing to do with landing fees or APD, it’s down to catchment and demand.

Equalling LHR won't happen purely because of the smaller catchment area.

As for MAN, I feel like trying to catch up to Edinburgh and then the smaller London airports might be worth looking at first (were that to be your aim).

And the factors which will fuel increases at BHX will equally fuel increases at MAN, EDI, LHR etc.. So catching up really is not the point. EK is doing very well at BHX.

That’s just a fake speculation you’ve made, it’s the airport management who decided the taxes, incl profit, costs to fund the ground teams etc. MAN is busier due to 1. Having a bigger airport, 2. More flexibility with MAN as there’s 3 services, there’s a higher Buisness travel from MAN, BHX is predominantly leisure travel. It also due to BHXs capacity, the most that could happen is the old EK41/42 returning, which was the morning 777 service, it’s always been on emirates watch to return it, it’s the morning connectivity towards Dubai that let down the service.

Another factor, major factor, is that the West Midlands, the principal catchment for BHX is the poorest area in England. That's why we have loads of low cost airlines, few 'national' carriers, and little business and first class services.

True. Back in the day, BHX used to be the busier business airport and MAN was the hub for trips to Lanzgrotte and Teneeefffeeee! Now it has reversed, although business travel demand is far lower than it once was due to Teams and Zoom.

Reality is, it does not matter. I have lost hope of the days when you could fly across the pond on a daily basis or to the Goa, or half of Germany's towns and villages.

To the Med sun we now all seem to go. That is the demand and BHX caters for that demand pretty darn well.

As others have pointed out, the catchment area is larger. Emirates’ Manchester service is also serving the likes of Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, and Stoke- they are all closer to MAN than BHX.

It's only the odd person most are realistic in terms of expectatation's for there airport but those who aren't really should just enjoy it for what it is Birmingham is miles behind Manchester but significantly bigger than lots of other airports. Some don't even have an airport left supporters of the likes of Blackpool and Coventry and such add the like of Southend thats hardly a passenger service left compared to three or four years ago and such Birmingham posssibly should be in a better place than it is but it's not doing badly it just can't compete with Manchester many will disagree but for me Manchester should be celebrated a little more than it is the country is Southern centric as it is having such a facility as Manchester is a plus for the North with some of the routes it has.

Some of us who've been following the airport for few decades, seen the highs and lows. Like Ian said West midlands is one of the poorest places in the country and being sandwiched between the two biggest catchment areas it's always going to be uphill struggle to attract new flag carriers. It's never going be in the same league as London or Manchester. One hopes we find a decent new investor who can improve and develop the infrastructure at BHX.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
