To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Airbus goes away and re-engineers the A380 into a slightly smaller twin engine double deck aircraft akin to the "Ecoliner":

Swap out the aluminium A380 fuselage for Carbon Composites and use some beefed up GE90/GE9X engines.

The sad part was that is what EK was looking for ether a longer A380 or wing engined A380. Sadly A380plus was made & not even one ordered. I don't think the 777X will come to BHX to long same issue as the A340-600. The A350 or 777-300(ER) might replace the A380 routes at BHX. They might so back to 3 daily dubai if they take out the A380 at BHX. I give it another 25 years before EK fleet of A380 will be gone.

I'm sure if any airline wanted to operate a 777X into BHX, the airport would do any necessary taxiway work/stand work etc. to accomodate it, its not the length of the aircraft but the wheelbase on the A346 thats the issue, dont know if the 777X will have the same problem? I believe BHX is going to make taxiway improvements in the new masterplan, so they might already be looking at the issues created by the newer generation aircraft.

Hmm, so they can potentially put up with losing 500+ passengers a day plus cargo for a month. Good to know.

I've posted the link below again as a reminder. I too was surprised at the number of services reduced across their network.

Also, the runway works have been timed to coincide with Ramadhan (a couple of weeks away) when Emirates usually experiences a blip in numbers. What does surprise me is with it being Easter in the UK the traffic EK39/40 would be taking for the next fortnight. I was on A380 last Easter and pretty sure the pax load was 600+ on both days of travel.

Hi there all, do you think that Emirates can be convinced to set up a long haul service to us from bhx at all, because I think that Emirates would be the only one to do it.... Andyc

Hi there Jerry, yes, possibly a freedom route to the United States of America and see how the demand is... Andyc

I couldn't see any airline filling an A380 between BHX and the USA, so for Emirates to operate such a route would mean either adding a 3rd daily rotation to BHX on a smaller aircraft that would continue to the USA, or downgrading one of the current 2 A380's to a smaller aircraft to continue to the USA. Can't personally see Emirates being too keen on either of those options, at least for a number of years.

Could it not work if the third early service was reintroduced with a U.S. extension to Miami on a seasonal basis to accommodate holiday traffic on the new 777x with frequent transfer flights throughout the Americas with local carriers?

Another factor may well be APD. Emirates may not want to pay the extra tax on a route like that especially if they could operate a route from another country without the tax.

Hi there all, I wasn't referring to an a380 to do the route, I was thinking more of a 777-300,.....andyc

As I said that means either:

1). Downgrade one of the A380's to a 773 meaning 15% less capacity to Dubai

or

2). Add a 3rd daily flight with the 773 continuing to USA. Do we have the demand to warrant a 35% increase in capacity to Dubai?

As much as it would be great to have Emirates operate such a route I just can't see them doing it.

Plus I think BHX management (rightly or wrongly) very much have their sights set on an American airline only...

Emirates to NY would be a dream come true and if any airline could make it work it would be them, sadly I think it is one that will remain just a dream.

Not so long back Tim Clark said that Emirates had been inundated with requests from airports across Europe to run one stop services through them to the USA, so even if they do decide to launch another one BHX would be up against some very stiff competition from all over the continent.

I'd love to be proven wrong but I just don't see it.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
