I heard last night that a 2nd A388 maybe as early as Aug 17 !
I think it will be Mar 18.
I am sure BHX are negotiating with EK.

From what we've seen of Mr Kehoe and his team over the past couple of years or so, we can take it for granted that they won't be sitting back and taking it on the chin.
Whilst this doesn't guarantee anything, I'm certain the team will be fighting 'tooth and claw' to get the best service possible for Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Anyone care to take bets on NCP having multiple staff on duty at the car park this coming Wednesday?

A6-EFM apparently due into BHX at 1500 hrs with a proposed departure of 1800 hrs (77F).

I have visions of the car park being quite busy on Wednesday. And a wet weather forecast as well.

Ah well. I will have the camera in my dry office :)

And it rightly deserves the nickname of "Flying Warehouse". They have literally stopped taking pallets off the flight about 10 minutes ago. Waiting for the outbound load to go on now (I believe some motor vehicles) and it should be an on-time departure (circa 1800 hrs).

Can you fit cars like Aston Martins into the cargo holds of 787s? Or do you need a larger aircraft like a 777?

Hi Jerry. Cars can be carried lower deck on most (if not all) wide body flights. It all depends on the overall size of the cars being shipped. Anything over 155 cms in height (possibly 158 cms if you are lucky) would need a main deck service. Obviously the length and width need to be taken into account as well. Most Airlines would ship 1 x car on 1 x Airline pallet (think a large piece of metal with locking points) so you would be looking no more than 317 x 240 cms (length x width). The flight in today will take two of those pallets side by side so you could get a decent load for your forecourt on one of these babies.

RoutesOnline confirming what was already on the Emirates website:

Emirates during the month of July and August 2017 has filed 3 daily operation for Dubai – Birmingham service, which sees the 3rd daily EK041/042 continues operation during this period. Airlineroute on 05MAY17 reported planned service reduction for Birmingham, however the report did not highlight EK041/042 service will be maintained from 01JUL17 to 31AUG17.

EK041 DXB0320 – 0750BHX 77W D
EK039 DXB0735 – 1220BHX 77W D
EK037 DXB1455 – 1940BHX 388 D

EK042 BHX0940 – 1940DXB 77W D
EK040 BHX1420 – 0035+1DXB 77W D
EK038 BHX2140 – 0755+1DXB 388 D

Can we have a "Dislike" button please?

I know this will keep the Passenger oriented businesses happy but the poor sods in cargo will suffer from this decision (if confirmed).

Yes the 2nd A388 is confirmed and showing on their website. Where will the lost cargo travel from in the meantime? Their choice of words for the press regarding the morning flight being "suspended" makes me hopeful that they will re-introduce the morning flight when they feel the time is right, just no idea when that will be.

Over to you, Qatar...

Whilst deep down I understand their reasoning for this (Passengers, or as I prefer to call them self-loading cargo) make the decision to use the bright shiny new flight, whereas people in cargo make the decision for their clients. If this does happen then all the flights from the UK to DXB (upto MAN) will be on A380 which means that NCL would be the nearest overspill flight! EK will have to look at the probability of making last Wednesday flight a more regular occurrence (even if it means using EMA or BHX due to space limitations). My overall concern is finding space within the timetable and the available fleet to do so. Last weeks flight was a scheduled service with a drop into BHX (no more no less) and so this flight did not have to be shoehorned into the schedule. Do EK have any more freighters on order from Seattle? And if the answer is yes when are they expected to be delivered?

Only BHX eh? I doubt there are many airports out there that receive x2 daily A380's yet only x3/4 777's a week and just one weekly A330 during the summer? What funny times we live in.

I totally understand CL44 concerns, after all he works in the cargo business and knows his stuff.
However i think overall, taking everything into account this is good news for BHX. We are an airport that hopefully will receive around 13 million passengers this year, its a great accolade to have 2 x A380 on our runway every single day. I will miss the EK 777's though, my second favourite aircraft after the 757.
For me though it gets a :)

Some online research suggests that Emirates Skycargo don't have anything on order from Boeing.

Does anyone know much about the Cargolux operation from Stansted, frequencies etc? I notice that Emirates Skycargo now have a tie up with them so that may be an option?

I will miss the EK 777's though

I do love the 77W but I guess we still have PIA operating them, for now.

Great to see the second A380 confirmed, quite a coup for an airport such as BHX :)

Emirates certainly seem to be on a drive to get destinations served by A380's alone - recently we've had Emirates announce Melbourne & Shanghai going all A380. Great to see Birmingham added to that list.

Whilst this is good news, I hope it doesn't sound too selfish to ask "Qatar, when are you going to expand at BHX?" - I appreciate they've only been operating at BHX for a little over a year now but still... ;)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
