As BHX forum is pretty quiet just now thought I'd post a tiny bit of positive news in that Emirates have or will re-open their business lounge this month. The route is currently ten weekly.

Manchester also re-opens this month with Gatwick and Glasgow opening January. Heathrow naturally has been open for some time.

Let's hope so (although CL44 may disagree). They wouldn't be re-opening the business lounge, if there wasn't enough demand. This should indicate healthy business class sales from/to BHX.

Birmingham and an Emirates A380, perfection. It was a viable option before the medical incident. Has the demand for sIgnIficant traffic emerged?

It seems a shame to bring back the A380 at the moment. Please bear in mind that there are still travel restrictions around the world (not just here and in Dubai), so why not keep the 777 for the time being (PLEASE!). I am also wondering how inflated the figures may be allowing for holiday traffic with people taking a chance of getting away in the hope that the regulations do not change whilst they are away? The way it seems to be going there could be a lot of very disappointed travelers out there!

I have to admit to the benefit of the Boeing 777, I had not appreciated it's dimensions but would like the return of the A380 at a suitable time. I always thought the 777 as a fat 737.

Wouldn't a daily 777 and a daily A380 have more cargo capacity than a 10 weekly 777 operation? Assuming there's enough passenger demand to warrant double daily with A380 operating half the flights.

And that is the $64K question. If the 777 is running at 80% capacity (and still taking a full load of cargo) will EK look at changing the schedule to allow the 380 back in whilst protecting their revenue as well. I can say that cargo revenue is very (read VERY) proud at the moment with rates far and above what has previously been charged pre-pandemic. As prestige (and using the 380 as much as they can) means it should come back into service to BHX sooner rather than later will the costs outweigh the benefits? None of us on this forum will have access to the figures which will prove this one way or the other so we will all have to wait and see. At the end of the day the bean counters in DXB will have the final say.

Interestingly Planespotters.net quote 57 in service and 63 parked, with 1 awaiting delivery.

It also states that 2 B777 are parked at present.

Birmingham is getting its Emirates big bird back. From 1st July BHX is 1 daily B77W and 1 daily A388.

Emirates website is indeed now showing EK39/40 as a 2 class A380 from 1st July, however EK37/38 is still 3 a week on the B777

However I had heard that EK37/38 might be going daily from the end of March, maybe still work in progress!

According to a post by CM on the Newcastle forum EK go double daily from March 27th with the B777 and on July1st EK39/40 becomes a daily A380 service.

Good sign for next year.

Now that Australia ( except WA) is fully open to all eligible travellers from 21st February the traditional carriers are scrambling to restore service offering and positioning. In particular, Emirates has practically doubled it’s seat availability to the AU major cities overnight. I fully understand that full recovery from this period of severe stagnation will be a relatively gradual process, however I would not at all be surprised to see an announcement for BHX which may indicate excess of pre- COVID level Seat capacity.
