Now that Australia ( except WA) is fully open to all eligible travellers from 21st February the traditional carriers are scrambling to restore service offering and positioning. In particular, Emirates has practically doubled it’s seat availability to the AU major cities overnight. I fully understand that full recovery from this period of severe stagnation will be a relatively gradual process, however I would not at all be surprised to see an announcement for BHX which may indicate excess of pre- COVID level Seat capacity.

I certainly think there's a good chance we may see the A380 before its current planned start in July, potentially even the double daily A380 by the end of this year?

Can we dream of our 3rd daily returning in 2023 maybe ?

I think 2024 or after is more likely.

Best option for Emirates would be to use their new A350 or B787 on the morning flight and deliveries for these are meant to start in 2023.

I suspect Emirates will initially use them to launch routes to new destinations where the B777 was too big, before using them to increase frequencies.

EK carried 1,500 through BHX on Saturday

Double daily A380 represents twice as many seats as we currently have and 20% more than we have planned for this summer.

Adding a morning B777 would add a further 35% on top of that.

No doubt it will be back at some point, but Emirates dropped the morning flights before the pandemic not because of it.

It will be nice to see Emirates expand in Birmingham - but i think Gulf Air is the best competitor and would cater for all Asian Community well - overall excellent service we love you Birmingham and BHX x x x all the way x x x

Personally, I'd be happy to see BHX, regain the services it had pre-pandemic (e.g. Qatar, Turkmenistan etc), before trying to add new airlines.

No EK A380 after all?

Emirates seem to have rationalised their UK operation which I believe sees the following changes to what was planned although only checked BHX

Manchester I believe was planned for 3 daily but it seems to be 2 daily now both A380's

BHX was to be an A380 on EK39 from 1st July but is to remain double daily 77W - there doesn't seem to be any change to double daily from 27 March

Newcastle 5 per week 77W

Glasgow from 2 daily to one daily 77W

Gatwick as per John Dyer's post to remain 2 daily A380

Edinburgh - non-ops no change

A shame the A380 is no longer on sale after a little over 2 months. In that time we have seen travel restrictions remain in place for key markets such as India and the Far East. I have no doubt this is impacting forward bookings.

I hope (and dream) we can see some planned upgrades in and around peak times, although this is not something we see with EK, they certainly are not short of A380s! Having travelled with EK during Easter, we sure can fill an A380 during the school holidays. Also remember today, Dubai is a destination in it's own right and is different to say 10 years ago where most of the flight was made up of connecting pax.

I hope we can see international travel recover in 2023 leading to a return of the A380. As mentioned, glad we have two daily flights from the end of this month.

In my previous observation I stated that the airline had to recover from a period of stagnation. This will be no easy task and full recovery may take 18 months/two years to achieve. The business plan has been severely disrupted; aircraft maintenance and check schedules are in disarray, many senior flight crew and cabin staff have now left the UAE and additionally experienced flight planning personnel are struggling with the unknown. It is not simply the case of business as usual and reintroducing the March 2020 timetable. It just cannot happen, however,

Cont'd from the previous post; ....however, a firm base has been established with the re-introduction of the 2x daily 777's. This will, over the course of the next 12 months, allow the airline to gauge the uptake and trends to the extent that they will be in the position to make further business decisions regarding capacity options. In my opinion, this will undoubtedly affect the position of the other smaller Regional Airports and they will not enjoy the growth enjoyed in the last 5 years based on the 777 availability.
PS Once again may I apologise for the interrupted post; --a lightning strike about 50 metres from my home with the resultant blackout.

That's a shame as I love the bar plus air quality in the cabin on the 380 just seems better than the 777 to me.

Guess I'll fly from Heathrow then.

That's the last thing that the EK service from BHX needs, if it is to see the A380 return. The pax numbers need to go up, not down!

People on here keep saying it’s close to full now. Or was that just one weekend at half term?

Little old me won’t influence anything.

I think it was the half term flights that were 'close to full'. If all flights were close to full, it would certainly be upgraded either by a larger aircraft or a frequency increase.

Little old me won’t influence anything.
That's like saying 'I wont bother going to vote, as one vote counts for nothing'. But, if hundreds or thousands vote similarly, it can make a big difference.
Also, by flying from Heathrow, you are not supporting employment in the West Midlands (assuming that's where you reside), but rather the south east.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
