My first thought was 'there goes Qatar' but on reflection I wonder if they'll be willing to sit back and let EK have BHX all to themselves. I know it shouldn't make a difference but there will be huge Qatari investment in Central Birmingham over the coming years, I think they're pretty much developing the whole area around the new HS2 station themselves.

I would't expect anything immediately as they've only just expanded at MAN but in the next 18 months or so, who knows?

EMIRATES 3RD DAILY

SUPERB SUPERB SUPERB, This is great news. Got home and was cooking, put the tv on and it was on Midlands today. Whilst watching it, i forgot about my poor sausages that were burning away.

This is really great news and FIRST CLASS. Now that is a vote of confidence.

Now im not that good at maths but will this extra capacity on a massive aircraft every day, offset the losses suffered by flybe little aircraft ???????

But we can now all have a Great Christmas and look forward to some really good positive developments at BHX.

:good: :good: :good:

:hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

From 1st August to 31st December there will be a little over 55k extra EK seats. It's hard to tell with Flybe as the schedules still seem to be being tweaked.

Sure does :good:

I happened to drive past that ASDA not long after it was reported and the billboards were empty, I wonder if that one slipped through the net and went up a little too early.

However even with the AI service going daily I still see lots of Indian destinations on EK boarding cards.Mumbai,Kolkata,Chennai,Bangalore and even Delhi. So I believe that there are possibilities in that part of the world.
Incidently China and Australia still feature heavily as onward destinations as well.....

There is some interesting analysis in the 'Routes Online' article about EK at BHX.

30.4% of the EK pax are point to point.

The top ten most popular connections are Islamabad, Bangkok, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Perth, Delhi, Dhaka, Cochin, Sydney and Kuala Lumpur.

ISB isn't really a surprise with PIA now down to 3x weekly. Mumbai has always been high for EK and LH and even with AI now on the scene Delhi still makes the top ten along with Cochin. SYD and PER are usually popular (although no MEL?). What is interesting is Bangkok up to #2, Hong Kong at #4 and Kuala Lumpur which I've never seen as one of the most popular before, these seem to have pushed Beijing and Shanghai off the list, although I think Beijing is the #1 long haul connection for LH.

Yes that is interesting analysis.I'm surprised that China is not in the top 10 though.
As I work nights I only see the onward destinations for the evening flight. It would be interesting to know how many of the onward destinations feature on both flights and also what new destinations will feature when the new morning service starts.

It seems cargo space on the 3rd daily BHX flight is being used as 'overspill' from other flights, as, cargo space is not being sold according to the skycargo timetables.

The timetables have been updated as they show the 2nd MAN A380 which was announced after the BHX 3rd daily.

I suppose it makes sense to have an overspill flight, as cargo capacity seems a bit tight at the moment.

It looks like the first class experiment has not worked for Emirates, as, according to GDS, the morning flight reverts to a 2 class B77W from 1st January.

This must surely rule out an A380 at BHX until a 2 class variant is available, due to the very premium heavy configuration of the A380.

Airlineroute are also publishing the change.

First class was definitely bookable into January last week, but, has now been removed from ale as of 1st Jan.

It is a shame that it was cut so soon, but, it does seem lake Emirates are being more ruthless in their changes, evident from Rome loosing its A380 next month.

It's not really surprising, with the A330's rarely seen in Western Europe anymore the new service was always going to start off with a low density 777, the options were either to seal First off and use it for the crew or sell the seats and see how it does. I'm not expecting them too but I'd imagine if First Class sales go through the roof over the coming months then things may well change. Personally I'm not too bothered either way as getting the third service was always a priority and as long as EK41/42 remains I'm happy and if it's an A380 people want then EK will have two class versions by the end of the year.

I'm fairly sure that from August 1st, Emirates flight EK41, will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER with first class, as my employers have booked a couple of these fares already for their top brass. Three grand a pop. Is this no longer available ?

It is disappointing seeing as the flights have only been on sale for four weeks, with little marketing.

But we are 6 months away from the first flight so I will remain positive about the new additions.

Out of interest Dazzler do you know if your company would still have booked flights from BHX in business if first hadn't been available or would they have booked first into LHR?

These would have been business class, but the guests are being wined & dined at Resorts World, so they stretched to get P class to complete the experience.

Given that no extra cargo space is being sold for the third flight and that first class isn't going to last I wonder if BHX is being lined up as one of the first destinations for the 2 class A380s?

An interesting point. We are led to believe that cargo is being brought down from MAN as they have lost a B777 but gained an A380.My question is where is any excess cargo going to go if the need arises from customers who would normally use the BHX flights?
Rumour has it that a dedicated cargo flight could operate from MAN later in the year if needed.
If an A380 is also used from BHX would EK consider operating a pure cargo flight from BHX as well,or am I just being silly???!!!
Stranger things have happened :pardon:

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
