Funnily enough I was in Doncaster quite recently and I went to have a little drive past, maybe I should have parked to look inside but anyway fleetingly I thought Doncaster's building looked higher whereas Liverpools looks longer.

The terminal building at liverpool at one

end near some of the gates, I feel need improvements , its where Ryanairs flights tend to leave from. Apart from that the terminal is quite roomy with plenty of light at the check in hall and departure lounge.

Great news for Liverpool airport. The terminal building looks very similar on the outside to Doncaster's but I'm not sure if the similarity ends there. What actually remains of the old terminal building? I understand the new structure was basically built around the old building?

I dont think you can easily tell much of the old terminal now. You dont btw mean the really old art deco terminal ? Thats a hotel now.

I think the old one, that featured on early Easy Jet programmes, was pulled down when this one opened. What I like about it is its spacious, even when busy. Gets a bit throng at the gates but doesnt everywhere and arrivals needs sorting, but it will happen..Never had a problem with toilets on arrivals and trust me there`s been times I`ve needed them off a late night Easy. But most of the staff seem to be local, with the quick scouse wit and always prepared to help. I think its a relaxed airport to pass through and good parking as well..

The old old terminal is the art deco building that is now a hotel opposite Estuary retail park which is well worth a visit just to gawp at the inside. The car park is what used to be the airside pan..

I did stop at the old terminal hotel years ago, it was a Crown Plaza then, might be Raddison now but not sure. I was flying to London City to see the "outlaws" it was a Friday evening flight, and VLM had overbooked it. They were looking for passengers who would give up their seat and fly on Saturday morning, plus they would put us up at the above mentioned hotel, there might have been a bit of compensation too.. Well as I wasn't particularly looking forward to the weekend, our hands went up straight away !

Some media details of yesterdays drama. Hopefully a normal travel day for passengers today, 1000s were inconvenienced yesterday, however import that safety comes first, and no one was injured or worse.

Flights were cancelled after a private plane came off the runway at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
Four people were on board but no-one was hurt when the plane landed at about 06:00 GMT.
A source at Liverpool FC confirmed the private jet had flown from the United States and was carrying one of the club's owners, Mike Gordon.
The airport tweeted at 23:20 to say that "normal operations have now resumed".
More than 9,000 passengers had flights cancelled, delayed or transferred to Manchester Airport and many booked into hotels for the night.

Mr Gordon, who is the president of Fenway Sports Group, was on a flight from Bedford, Massachusetts, to Liverpool to attend a regular meeting at the club.
"He was not injured but would like to pass on his appreciation to the staff at Liverpool John Lennon Airport and the emergency services for their amazing work," the source said.
The airport - which has apologised to passengers - issued several updates, saying work to deal with the problems was continuing, before later confirming that normal operations had resumed.

A specialist removal team and firefighters had been struggling all day to remove the plane's wheels, which became embedded in mud 59m (194ft) to the side of the runway.
They had been trying to dig out a track with the aim of dragging the plane out on to the runway.
Once the jet was removed, a runway inspection had to be carried out before the airport could reopen.

Liverpool Airport operations director Paul Staples earlier said the jet was too close to the landing strip to use the runway.
"We can't compromise safety," Mr Staples said, adding runways must have 75m of clear space.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is investigating.
A spokeswoman for VistaJet added: "We are fully co-operating with the airport and relevant authorities."

Eric Henderson, from Preston, was due to travel to Amsterdam for work.
"Our flight was due to leave at 07:30. We noticed at ten to that the flight had been moved to 11:40," he said.
"There was no explanation until we looked out of the large windows on the concourse and saw all the blue flashing lights."

Leading the UK's fight to cut serious and organised crime

Explosives detection dogs from police forces across the country have been taking part in a major training exercise at Liverpool John Lennon Airport this week.
More than 30 dogs have been put through their paces by their handlers throughout the terminal building and airfield, testing their ability to detect substances that could potentially harm members of the public.
The exercise, which was coordinated by instructors from the Police, National Crime Agency and Border Force, supports the cross-government CONTEST counter-terrorism strategy – a major part of which is keeping air passengers safe and ensuring that the UK continues to lead efforts to raise global aviation safety standards.
Chief Instructor Si Coley from Merseyside Police said "This exercise is one that is replicated throughout the country to make sure Nationally we are working together to the same standards.

"Dogs are known for their incredible sense of smell and their ability to sniff out harmful substances is what makes them one of the best assets in the fight against terrorism.
“A key factor in producing and maintaining the very best explosives search dogs is training.
“Locations like Liverpool John Lennon Airport are busy environments. Continual opportunities to train in this type of location makes for an even more robust and effective dog and handler team.”
“I’d like to thank Liverpool John Lennon Airport and our other partners for making this happen.
“The safety of the communities we serve both locally and nationally are at the heart of what we do and this event will certainly enhance that.”
Debbie Lacy-May, Head of Security and Terminal Operations, Liverpool John Lennon Airport said: “We are delighted to collaborate with Merseyside Police and partners in relation to this exercise.
“This training will give the dogs and their handlers an invaluable insight into the workings of an airport and will ensure they are as ready as they can be to operate here – detecting and preventing crime and keeping our passengers safe.”

Staff at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) are facing redundancies, lay-offs and pay cuts as the aviation sector continues to be decimated the coronavirus.
Although the airport continues to operate and see flights take off and land, airlines are slashing their operations. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has warned UK citizens to avoid all global travel for the next 30 days.
Earlier this week, LBN reported how Ryanair and easyJet, who between them operate more than 60 routes out of LJLA, were drastically cutting back on flights with both considering grounding their fleet altogether.
Consequently, the airport, which handles around 5m passengers a year and employs hundreds of people, is having to cut back its operations and says that “all cost reduction opportunities are being pursued”. These include redundancies, lay-offs, pay cuts and reduced working hours.
LJLA said it was looking to ensure the sustainability of the business during these extreme circumstances”, adding: “This will unfortunately necessitate salary reductions for airport company employees including the airport’s executive team, reduced working weeks, temporary lay-offs and a number of redundancies. All capital expenditure has been deferred too.
“Liverpool John Lennon Airport plays a significant role in the local and regional economy and whilst this situation is not unique to our business, it is important that we put measures in place that will ensure the sustainability of the business in the short term in order to protect our long term future and be best placed to recover from this crisis in due course with the return of airline operations.”
Chief executive John Irving added: “The threat to the whole UK aviation industry should not be underestimated and we await details of the Government’s potential support package for airlines and airports announced by the Chancellor, which will be needed to help our industry survive this unprecedented collapse in business.”

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
