Bit blunt there sorry Karl. I'm not entirely sure for the reason - and i'm not sure if anyone within the company knows apart from probably the planning team & the top dogs themseveles.

As already mentioned, the new 738s obviously have newer engines (hence presumably more efficient?) and so it makes more sense to use them out of the more northern bases. EDI and GLA are currently entirely “8MG” bases and have been for a little while, along with NCL and LBA seeing more than before. BHX is the second-most southern base. Admittedly this doesn’t explain STN still being entirely “8MG” but I’m sure they have their reasons and this may end up changing soon. TUI would appear to have had similar thinking with their plans to base MAXs at EDI and GLA (and MAN of course) for this summer; whether this will happen at all of course remains to be seen.

Jet2 B738s - where they are based (as of today)

BFS - All older B738s
BHX - All older B738s
EMA - All older B738s

MAN - Mix of old and new B738s (more old than new)
NCL - Mix of old and new B738s (half and half)
LBA - Mainly new B738s (some older ones passing through for maintenance)

GLA - All new B738s
EDI - All new B738s
STN - All new B738s

May is here and it brings with it a few new Jet2 routes :)

Bourgas starts on the 6th, Chania on the 7th, Izmir on the 8th, Verona on the 11th, Pula on the 12th and Bergerac on the 25th.

The seat maps for the first outbound flights look encouraging but (if I remember) I'll look closer to the time for a more accurate picture.

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays Celebrates Inaugural Flights from Birmingham

7th May 2019: Jet2.com and Jet2holidays waved off its first ever flight to Bourgas in Bulgaria from Birmingham Airport on Bank Holiday Monday, the first of six new routes that the leading leisure airline and package holiday specialist is celebrating from the base over the next few weeks.

Customers on yesterday morning’s Birmingham to Bourgas flight were given a special celebration of treats, refreshments, and one lucky customer, Gareth Green from Milton Keynes, even won a pair of return Jet2.com flights after finding a lucky envelope on his seat, before departing to the Balkan sunshine.

The full flight marked the start of the leading leisure airline and package holiday specialist operating twice-weekly (Monday and Thursday) flights and holidays to the region from Birmingham Airport between May and September, as holidaymakers look for great value for money as well as miles of golden sands along the Black Sea. With a range of 2-5 star hotels on sale, locals can soak up the Balkan sun in resorts such as Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Obzor and St Vlas.

On top of yesterday’s celebration, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays is gearing up to launch five other brand new Summer routes from Birmingham Airport, which are:

  • Chania (Crete), the company’s seventh Greek destination on sale from Birmingham Airport this Summer. The first flight will depart today, marking the start of a programme of weekly Tuesday services between May and September. Chania is proving to be extremely popular with local holidaymakers looking to enjoy the northwest coast of Crete, which opens up blue flag beaches and historic sights in resorts such as Rethymnon, Aghia Marina, Chania Town, Kalyves, Stalos and Kolymbari.
  • Izmir (Turkey), the fourth destination available from Birmingham Airport with com and Jet2holidays. Izmir is already proving to be extremely popular with local holidaymakers looking for exceptional weather, great value, and fabulous cuisine with beautiful beaches and the Dilek National Park within easy reach. Flights will operate to Izmir every Wednesday from May 8th through to the end of October, providing access to popular family friendly resorts on the west coast of Turkey such as Kusadasi, Cesme, Ozdere and Seferihisar making it the perfect blend of sunshine and culture.
  • Verona – weekly Saturday services from May 11th until October, meaning fabulous city break options to this picturesque and romantic city, as well as stunning holidays in the Lake Garda area.
  • Pula (Croatia) – weekly Sunday services from May 12th until September to the Adriatic Coast, where resorts are built for fun and sun, but are also packed with ancient treasures waiting to be discovered.
  • Bergerac – weekly services every Saturday from May 25th through to late-September, adding even more choice for local holidaymakers, providing direct access to the famous Dordogne region of south-west France.
The launch of the six new routes comes as Jet2.com and Jet2holidays gets its biggest ever summer programme underway from Birmingham Airport, with 40 destinations on sale this summer.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “This marks our very first flight to the sunshine hotspot of Bourgas in Bulgaria from Birmingham Airport, and we were delighted to wave off the full flight as it departed to the Balkan sunshine. Our Summer 19 programme from Birmingham Airport is our biggest yet, with 40 destinations and six brand new summer routes on sale, and today’s inaugural flight means we are really kicking this summer programme off in style.”

Tom Screen, Aviation Director at Birmingham Airport said: “Welcoming a new route to the airport is always exciting, but in this case, this is the first of six! Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ inaugural flight to Bourgas in Bulgaria marks the start of the six new routes giving passengers the chance to visit Chania, Izmir, Verona, Pula and Bergerac from their local Airport. This added to the other 36 destinations on sale from Birmingham Airport this summer marks the beginning of the biggest ever programme from Jet2.com and Jet2holidays providing passengers with a variety of destinations and packages to suit their needs.”

S20 will see services to Menorca start earlier to take in Easter.

Jet2 has added an extra 10,000 Menorca seats to its summer 2020 programme and brought forward departures to early April, opening up travel to the Balearic island at Easter.

In total, Jet2.com will offer an additional 26 return services starting in April. The operator said its decision had been driven by increasing demand for early-season holidays.

Extra weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays will be available from three of Jet2.com’s nine UK bases – Birmingham, Manchester and Stansted – from 5 April.

Well this is a first for me I'm about to praise an airline for delivering my wife and I nearly four hours late at 3am at Bhxfrom LPA
We knew we were delayed and went to the Jet2 information desk who fully explained the problem, issued food vouchers we then proceeded through security and prior to scanning our boarding passes they had additional staff looking out and advising passengers.

The eventual boarding process was expidited in double time and the cabin crew who would have had a very long day were brilliant the whole experience given the circumstances were a lesson to other airlines in being proactive and facing up to a problem unlike near every other airline.

Well done Jet2.

Now the rant, the reason for the delayis the fact the summer season is kicking in which obviously means it's time for the French air traffic controllers to perform their regular antics is there a group of people anywhere that are so selfish or do they just have terrible working conditions which I very much doubt

Hope the above makes sense as I'm a little bit knackered

I personally am grateful for the stretch if water that keeps France separate from UK the tunnel excepted. The people have my admiration for being Bloodyminded individuals and for fighting for what they believe is their rights, if they had a Frexit it would be sorted before now.

Hoping you and yours had a good vacation Rollo!

When you've recovered, write to Jet2 to let them know. If you give your flight number and date, it's even possible that Jet2 may pass on your praise to the crew.
All too often, people are quick to criticise and slow to praise.
Just a simple 'thank you' can often mean so much.

Glad you enjoyed your holiday.

Kevin

......I have a feeling Jet2 will be going to Egypt at some point in the not too distant future.....nothing concrete, but I think it's a watch this space kind of thing

I heard from somewhere (can't remember where now) that they were looking at the potential of Cape Verde.
