Hi there Ianfarquharson, regarding ba cityflyer, are the loads less due to lack of advertising , where as jet2 went full on and they have reeped the rewards...Andyc

Hi there Ianfarquharson, yes I know that we shouldnt judge ba, but the fact of the matter is if you don't promote or advertise your services properly that you want people to use, then any returns are going to be low, so like jet2 that went full on, they are now seeing there returns come in. I cant really say that I saw any adverts in press or on social media at all, so this may back fire on ba I don't know, we will have to wait and see...Andyc

Perception may be that BA are expensive. Seen as a London airline for the wealthier. Their ads are all about business and first class, champagne and caviar. Lower fares are about quick turn around, poor sarnies and lottery tickets! It will take a while, but hopefully they will return on the capital city routes.

Are BA actually doing any more than finding something to do with their London City planes at the weekend? Will they ever launch any serious flights from BHX?

I can't imagine that those awful timings will sit well with many, especially families with younger children. If the BHX times were similar to those of BRS and MAN I would be flying with BA in October, as it is we're going with Monarch and arriving at Malaga mid morning, rather than in the wee small hours.

It will be galling if the BA Cityflyer flights don't work based on advertising. Looked at BHX-IBZ on Friday to see what fares were like.

£155 for club Europe. A full meal, 2 checked in bags at 22kg each, priority check in and obviously the J cabin. Bargain! As a point of reference, there were no other BHX-IBZ fares to compare against, but MAN-IBZ for just the simple walk on fare with Ryanair was £215 for today (sun) as Sat was sold out, so certainly BA need to get the message out that they are not as expensive as people think!

If (and it's still a big if) they do carry on into winter I'm sure that they could make one or two ski routes work. I would have thought Malaga too, especially as it looks like there will be no Vueling or Norwegian after October.

Just looked at the prices for Palma - week long trip at the start of June:

Ryanair - £86
BA CF - £92
BA CF (Club) - £199
Monarch - £196
Jet2 - £245

Alternatively could book 2 singles:

Outbound: Ryanair £22 or BA £29
Inbound: Ryanair £69 or BA £64

As a young man with no kids, the BA fares are certainly very attractive. I'd much rather pay the £6 extra and fly with BA than Ryanair, even if the flights are at awful times - at least BHX security should be quieter!

Norwegian have no flights at all bookable from BHX past October. I guess we'll see whether they'll return next summer or if we've seen the last of them.

I gather Norwegian weren't too happy when Jet2 showed up so I won't hold my breath but it would still be a shame to see them go.

AGP/TFS not available from MAN or EDI either at the moment so I wonder if a general Spain-UK route cull is on the cards for Norwegian?

Anyway. Back on topic. Excellent cake!

Just for a second I thought it said Florida on that cake.

Best of luck BA

Their CEO said in a recent interview that they had seen a huge post Brexit reduction in bookings to Spain from the UK. He mentioned less retirees travelling.

That's another great cake. The local cake maker must have done very well over the last couple of years :)

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
