Hopefully next summer but highly unlikely
I remember seeing a report stating that hong kong, singa and other asian markets were on the list for BHX but they didnt state timelines. Any idea as 2025 is quickly approaching? Also we continue to dream of connections direct to USA but I dont see any update on that front as well. I am a little concerned that we continue to grow regional flights with jet 2 and ryanair but hardly see new longhaul connections and when we do, its like every 3 or 5 years. Is this a political issue or bad commercial team managing this?

Less to do with political, more to do with agreements, airlines that decide to operate to an airport have to gain multiple permits to use that airport, including slots, ground crew company, hotels for the crew layover etc

Here’s the reasons why I think Etihad.

  1. It was Pegasus 4th most popular connector to and from Birmingham.Followed by Doha and Bodrum.
  2. Saudia was a shock to all of us and we wasn’t expecting it and have done reasonably well.
  3. Etihads chief executive who was at Routes Bahrain in October I think it was .He mentioned their would be some Bold routes which for Saudia to Birmingham it was a bold route.
  4. This might not be relevant but however. If Etihad are increasing in Britain.2 daily Manchester next year,More A380 to London .Their must be more demand surely.
But yeah it’s unlikely they’d come but i think they will do a Saudia
Their not doing a Saudia buddy, the UAE sector has no need to be increased at BHX, as etihad has no gain from it if there’s 2 daily flights to Dubai, this isn’t London Heathrow

Wonder what else BHX can expect next summer excluding Ryanair and EasyJet and jet2 .Hope we can get Freebird ,Corendon ( more routes) and expansion.Like to see the airport back to normal.Turkmenistan and PIA on the cards?

If you're seriously craving new routes constantly Ant, maybe you should follow Gatwick and Heathrow. BHX just isn't that kind of gateway 👍
I’m craving new routes but then I’m not craving new routes.
If we’re getting Pegasus to Antalya and expecting daily flights Istanbul then their must be demand.

I’m just looking at routes via the new ACL report 🙂

The demand is there which is why we should hopefully see AYT and an increase to SAW but too much of a good thing can be dangerous.

We all want to see growth but it needs to happen in a sustainable way. Too many seats flooding onto the market in too short a space of time can drive yields through the floor and eventually lead to routes being dropped, as we saw with Madrid a few years ago.

Totally agree.

It also happens in a cyclical way. Next year's boom destination may be in decline in a few years.

It is a shame that BHX has lost the business sector so much. Remember all those German destinations.... Daily! Hannover, Hamburg, Cologne, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Munich and I may have missed some.

Those days are gone and may never come back, because demand is not there. Pure and simple.

62000 flights a week to AYT by 937 airlines (or so it seems) is merely a reflection of holiday destination choices within the BHX catchment. The sad thing is for people who want to get away from their neighbours, now need to travel to London to do so or via one of the euro mega hubs.

I have always said that I would love to have the business to business and BHX to business hubs back, but it isn't gonna happen.

As for the States: demand demand demand and I am talking about there to here and London has that covered (Americans regard the distance between LHR and Birmingham as a short hop so it is no big deal).

I am sure the team at BHX are working as hard and a fast as they can. In the meantime enjoy the beautiful 747s that are visiting. Saw one on finals to LHR when at Kew Gardens recently. One of the better photos of the day. A rarity.

Any idea what’s happening with Hanain airlines cause I did notice about 9 months ago that their was A meeting regarding a connection between here and Beijing.

Very unlikely to happen but wondering if theirs being negotiations with bhx and the airline and also with Cathay Pacific aswell as Birmingham live posted an article

The current UK / China bi-laterals do not allow flights to BHX.

Hi there all, unfortunately Birmingham airport will never compete with the big boys, they are too far away out in front. I also think that 18 million passengers using Birmingham airport will be if it happens in about 10-15 years time and not before, I also don't think that apart from Emirates, Turkish Airlines, these are the only large airlines that could either increase frequency or add new routes if demand is there. Birminghams only other options are easyJet, ryanair and Jet2.

Guess we will never get this airline though it wants to expand from the uk?

0% chance happening
It doesn't say they want to expand in the UK !

But I think we have more chance of getting Gulf Air than Etihad

Not sure where you think Emirates and Turkish will expand to from BHX ?

The "big boys" - who do you mean Andrew? Heathrow? Gatwick? Manchester? Stansted? - I'm sorry, but realistically I don't think anyone in the UK would expect Birmingham to be completing with these airports, London as the capital city, will always be bigger than Birmingham, and of course is know far more worldwide. Manchester being up north and further away from London is also in a better geographical position then Birmingham, a big advantage for it.

Considering everything Birmingham has to deal with, I think it's doing ok!! - support the airport more, don't keep knocking it!!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
