In fairness, SV proved that MAN doesnt need to be daily for airlines to be interested in BHX but that maybe the exception not the rule. I do legit think that current migration from HK to UK does present opportunities that didnt previously exist which could be a good foundation on to build a route but thats dependant on CX having the capacity to do so.

well kudos to BHX - this article is doing the rounds in many forms... now we just need some new routes to be announced lol

They mentioned finnair to Asia.would that be a stopover or just a direct flight from Birmingham?

Finnair - the national airline and flag-carrier of Finland, a country that is located between Birmingham, the UK and Asia. I will let you ponder those facts initially.

Also, can you name a single national carrier that flies from one destination to another without stopping in the nation they carry their flag for which isn't a 5th Freedom Flight?! (...and no I cant image Finnair would be interested in 5th Freedom Flights to BHX or if they were even viable)

I totally appreciate I could have given you a more direct answer and my response my appear a little condescending, but I think you'll find the points I've made useful in educating.

Aer Lingus BHX - BHD ;)

What I was saying is the Helsiki to Tokyo goes the polar route as they are not allowed to fly over Russian airspace

When Russian airspace wasn't an issue, Finnair could market some flights as 'direct' from MAN to Asia.

Similarly and for example:
BHX-HKG 6004 miles
BHX-HEL-HKG 6009 miles

Maybe they are about to do the same?

They could never market them as “direct”. They did market the routes as the shortest way to Asia tho.

It was very much AY’s unique selling point, and they served an unusually large number of destinations in that part of the world. Unfortunately the inability to fly over Russia has rather screwed their whole business plan.

Actully thinking about it, I think they marketed as the “most direct route to Asia”, but not a direct flight, so I see what you mean. But yes the whole going east thing is a big problem for AY now, which is why they are offering more flights going west to the US.

Ant, haven't had the chance to check all the "restart" February flights, but I have found a few adjustments to your list

TUI's Verona has been operating since the end of December once weekly, Montego Bay has always been twice weekly

Eurowings Prague only operated in December, and is not operating for the rest of the winter period.

Ryanair Barcelona has always been 8 a week, likewise Alicante has always been 10 a week.

curious to know where you have seen these flight reductions?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
