There is still plenty of capacity not filled following the demise of Flybe. Where capacity has been filled by Loganair the tickets are actually very expensive compared to Flybe's fares.

A lot of people knock Flybe but the frequency of flights was excellent which is great if you are travelling on business as you don't need to spend any unnecessary time at your location.

It was a genuine competitor for rail to cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow, but you can't do that with one or 2 departures per day.

Difficult to see it working at BHX right now though if you have to wait 3 hours to enter the terminal.

So with the announcement on Monday by proposed new airlines Avooma and Be regional.
I do think they will operate a base from Birmingham.
These are my predictions
Inverness-With Loganair suspending the route due to staffing shortages.I do think this will be a primarily successful route.

Lyon and Nantes- with easyjet closing both routes I can see them operating this route 100%.

Bordeaux- Ryanair cancelling it’s operations.I can see 1 of the 2 airlines operating a route.

Glasgow-Seems to be a very busy route during football season so I see why not

Newquay - has to be an option for 1 of the 2 airlines if they did start operating

Guernsey
Stuttgart
Hannover
Southend-Wouldn’t surprise if it never got announced

Formally announced be regional formed April 2024 are no more and merging with Avooma a company formed in July 2020

The press release states the company will be visiting the Farnborough airshow to discuss acquiring aircraft with a view to starting operations.

A good sign is the Flybe name completely dissappears which must be right from a marketing point of view.

I think this is the article where US flights are briefly discussed.

NB's response admittedly does not sound that positive in the context of the article.

The interesting fact brought by the reporter is that BHX had carriers operating to NYC until October 2017.

When you consider that the COVID pandemic started in December 2019, and numbers are only just bouncing back this year, it feels like North American flights are now, maybe somewhat unjustly, being spun as unrealistic and distant when there clearly was consistent demand, not so long ago on United.

At the end of the day a daily flight to New York might add less passengers than an extra Ryanair flight to Tenerife so maybe NB is happy to pick up the low hanging fruit rather than go the extra mile trying to win flights to America or Hong Kong or wherever.

A direct US connection would do a lot for the profile of the airport and the region, so if there is an opportunity the airport will definitely go for it, subject to it fitting around everything else (e.g. runway timings).

That article references the fall of the pound vs the dollar. Its still terrible, compared with the mid-10s, to the tune of being 10-15% more expensive than last time i went across the pond. I suspect that did indeed have a big effect.

Having used the United service I saw it is being extensively used by passengers originating from the US, particularly at the front of the plane.

So the strong dollar might make the service more attractive to a US carrier.

Also through Newark the connections were good, not just to the US but also to the Caribbean, South and Central America.

I would say for the first connection to work it needs good connectivity either through a US airline or one of their international partners with extensive codeshares.

A point to point budget carrier like Primera is always going to struggle. Even if Ryanair finally decided to take the plunge transatlantic it I don't think that would work either.

Some useful information for you, most airlines offer crew the chance to shadow/work in their HQ. I have a few examples after 6 months of flying for easyjet you can apply to do a sort of apprenticeship thing where you learn the ins and outs of specific areas (I’ve been offered a role in route development for 6 months return back to flying afterwards) but they also keep you current so you can return to fly if you wish too, Ryanair also offers HQ tours for it crew so they get the chance to see what happens in the background, It’s well know that most of Ryanair management are ex crew who would worked for them 10+ years,Ryanair loves to recruit internally if possible.

Hi guys.Hope you all had a grand and summer weekendish.Anyway so at the moment I’m currently unemployed which is the reason I’m on here as per usual anyway it just goes to show how much I like planes and Aviation into context.I basically wanted to ask if theirs any jobs at the airport within the route development regime department as I have fresh ideas,Fascinating research and accelerating routes that can bolster the airports solutions to expansion the next few years which in my view must be an exciting opportunity .

Sorry for putting in this topic or thread whatever you call it however I didn’t where I was putting it.If theirs any admin jobs on here it would mean the world of goodness.
