Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

With a huge Gujarati population in the East Midlands I'm sure Ahmedabad was rumoured last time AI served BHX?

I think the AI LHR-BOM service extends on to AMD so maybe a couple of AMD-BOM-BHX-BOM-AMD per week could possibly be one for the future?

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

Apparently Shannon Airport are close to a deal with Stobart Air to resume BHX :)

Our Irish links are slowly coming back. :hatsoff:

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

Definitely good to see. Apparently it'll be operated on a W pattern from either DUB or ORK.

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

Shannon should be announced today 6x weekly from mid June.

Word is LDY won't be far behind, no idea which airline but Flybe have plenty of gaps in their schedule.

Or VLM ??????

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

It could well be. Good to see the Irish routes back so soon.

There's a rumour that Oslo may be back for winter, whether it'll be a return with Flybe or a new route for Norwegian I don't know, that's if it happens.

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

It's confirmed that Flybe have applied to the Regional Air Connectivity Fund to start BHX-LDY, the bad news is even if it gets through the appraisal process it won't start until 25th October 2016.

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

William Pearson has visited Minsk to try and get a flight from Belavia.

Currently Belavia run year round London links and seasonal Manchester flights, so, I assume any potential BHX flight would be along the same lines as the MAN flight.

No agreement made yet, but, one to watch. Likely to be a Summer 2016 route if it comes off.

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

That makes sense, he posted a picture he must have taken of a Belavia Aircraft safety card a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

In this article about Mr Kehoe's recent talk this caught my eye.

BA’s trade partner, American Airlines starts flying to JFK from Birmingham on 8 May and FlyBe have started using BA flight codes on departure boards. Paul hinted we may even see the iconic red, white and blue tail fin landing at Birmingham Airport very soon.

I thought Flybe dropped the BA code a few years ago, I don't recall seeing one recently?

I'm assuming when he hints at seeing the BA livery again he's talking about the Sun Air route to Gothenburg?

Re: Route Development & Airport Rumours

Flybe aren't codesharing with BA on anything other than some domestic LGW routes. Would make sense however to tap into the BA frequent flyer pool for short haul of which i'm sure the area must have maintained to some degree.

Only other reason I could see would be to feed the morning JFK but there are only a few Flybe arrivals early enough for this given the 10am departure time and assuming a 1hr minimum connect time plus the feed would be duplicated over LHR anyway.

BE401 BHD - Already has options via LHR
BE840 EDI - Already has options via LHR and a non-stop
BE781 GLA - Already has options via LHR
BE7040 DUS surprisingly no AA JFK non-stop but linked to LHR.

Air Asia X will be flying to a destination in Europe by the end of the year using an airline as a feeder for the flights.

I know BHX will not be this airport (I think I have an idea where it will be) but I wonder if this is the sort of direction they should be going in when trying to boost the long haul offering? We have the transfer facilities and if something could be worked out with Flybe to interline onto their network it could only help. The one downside would be BHX's location in the middle of the country and the lack of a domestic network but I imagine it could be an option worth exploring, if they haven't already?

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia X Bhd, the leading long-haul low-fare airline, aims to spread its wings to Hawaii and an 'exclusive' destination in Europe by December, Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said.

He said AirAsia X was in the midst of working out an arrangement with a feeder airline in Europe on the 'exclusive' route.
"The key thing for us is to find a destination where we can also link with a good feeder airline," he told reporters at the launch of Wisma Tune here today.

AirAsia X hopes to benefit from the feeder airline that would bring in travellers from destinations not served by large carriers to hub airports for onward journeys on national and international airlines.

AirAsia X have been in and out of the UK, I'm plumping for MAN?
I can't see Sun Air coming any time soon seeing that they've now gone to Cambridge :nea:

MAN was my first thought too. I wouldn't rule out STN though, it's a 'London' airport which is always a draw and now has a light sprinkling of Flybe routes which could well be the feeder airline, especially if they open a couple more destinations.

One things for sure it won't be BHX :s_sad

BHX still has more Flybe routes than STN, but I think Air Asia have flown to Stansted before, haven't they? If they came it would mean a spurt of new long haul offerings from STN.

I think they had a couple of years at Stansted.

The only way I think BHX could ever be in with a shout is if they route the flight to Europe via DEL, which has been suggested as a possibility by some. Flybe could feed into BHX and it could connect with Air Asia India's new base at DEL.

I can't see it happening though, firstly they'd have to compete with Air India's daily flight to it's extensive network and also the cheap offering from Turkmenistan. Secondly BHX can't even secure a decent European LOCO network so I think there's very little chance they'd be able to tempt Air Asia.

It does seem that way, it must be the sunshine :D

I always like this time of year when the summer timetable kicks in and things start getting busy again. It's great seeing aircraft queuing for the runway and a steady stream of arrivals one after the other.

All we need now is a couple of announcements :)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
