Six TUI departures shown for tomorrow (22 July) - the most in a day for quite a while.

Zakynthos, Corfu, Larnaca, Heraklion, Las Palmas, Arrecife.

Most of those are cancelled tomorrow sadly
Thanks for that Marko. They wren't shown as cancelled on the airport website departure board earlier today when I looked but I note that they are now.

I note that winter 22/23 is now on sale. Nothing new as far as I can see sadly. I also note that a press release announcing extra flights from Birmingham for summer 22. Together with Doncaster and Newcastle it suggests expansion by tui at key bases - nothing yet from Brs but something to keep an eye on ?

Might be although Jet2 could be having an effect. It has to be noted that BRS now has major presences of easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 as well as TUI. I don't think that even BHX has all four in such numbers (easyJet is growing there but still a minor part of the scenery at the moment).

It must be a dreadful job for airlines to realistically plan for summer 2022. Early last summer the general view of the industry was that 2021 would see 60%-80% of 2019's capacity. We now know that isn't going to happen. The pandemic is taking far longer to settle down across the world than we all probably believed a year ago, so 2022 is impossible to predict.

I regard 2022's programmes with any airline as an aspiration and no more.

Well that is really bizarre isn’t it ? No mention of cuts to some destinations tho - girona , Alicante and chania and still no Tunisia. But nonetheless good to see some increases all the same. Incidentally none of this is new - it’s been in the domain for ages

At least other airlines operate to Girona, Alicante and Chania (this one seemed to come and go in the Ryanair booking engine earlier this year but does seem to be operating now).

Tunisia really is a puzzle. We've been here before more than once. If TUI don't fancy it - they fly to nine* UK airports with six being seasonal - the only alternative would appear to be easyJet given that neither Jet2 nor Ryanair fly to Enfidha at the moment. Monastir is still operating sun flights around Europe but as far as I can ascertain the only UK destination is Manchester with Nouvelair.

*one of the six seasonal flights is to CWL - it's currently due to resume in September this year

Four more TUI flights are shown on the website departure board for tomorrow then marked 'cancelled' - Zakynthos, Tenerife South, Corfu and Rhodes.

All those cancelled today and tomorrow are shown in the TUI timetable as resuming in early August except for Tenerife which is showing a 13 August resumption.

Given that most local authority schools in the region 'broke up' this week it seems odd that TUI is waiting until the first week in August before beginning a number of its holiday routes. I would have expected them to start this weekend. Instead, they seem to have been concentrating on the Balearics from BRS during July.

With this expansion what will number of based frames look like?

5-6 - 738/max
1 - full based 787

Great to see TUI and BRS still going strong despite Jet2 turning up!

At the moment summer 2022 looks like one 787 and five 738/Max based full time - ack #1538 and 1539 posted on 14 July this year.

All subject to change of course with pandemic uncertainties likely to be with us in some form next year, and TUI tends to make changes along the way in normal circumstances. As in pre-pandemic times the 787 will operate both long-haul and short-haul. It had been due to be based full time in summer 2020 (previous summers 5 x weekly).

Which short haul routes is the 787 due to operate?

Which short haul routes is the 787 due to operate?
In summer 2019 the 788 operated short-haul flights to Dalaman, Larnaca and Dubrovnik as well as the long-haul to Florida and Mexico. That was when it was part-based for five days a week as it had been in the previous few summers.

In summer 2022 it will be based full time (as it should have been in summer 2020 and summer 2021) and is scheduled to operate twice-weekly to both Cancun and Orlando Melbourne. The other three days will presumably be taken up with short-haul routes but I'm not sure what they are. Marko or Severn might be aware.

It’s a early for the summer 22 to be allocated but routes that were planned on the 787 this summer included Rhodes , palma x2 and dalaman. In the past we have also seen Antalya and Heraklion. I will keep a check tho. At the mo I can’t see the 787 this summer somehow. What I find strange is that most of the potential tui routes that they could be operating to either green, amber or green watchlist , are not going to operate - whereas they are from other uk airports - routes to the likes of Croatia are not going to operate this year now

Thank you, Marko.

Do you mean on short-haul? The long-haul routes to Cancun and Orlando Sanford are still shown in the TUI timetable restarting in the second half of next month.

Will they bring them in just for three flights per week? The weds palma has been dropped and I can’t see turkey turning from red for what will be 2/3 weeks of school holidays. There isn’t a schedule to fill 2 aircraft at the moment

There is a current discussion in the Dried Plum about TUI's performance this summer compared with other airlines, with the suggestion being that TUI is doing better than its rivals in terms of loads.

A poster today gave today's Bristol-Ibiza loads as an example.

TUI 143 (189-seat aircraft)
Jet2 75 (189-seat aircraft)
easyJet 58 (186-seat aircraft)

That poster pointed out that in normal times the flights should all be full on a Saturday in August.

Another poster suggested that TUI is consolidating flights which could account for their higher load factors. He said that someone he knew who lives in Suffolk was due to fly out from a London airport (he wasn't sure which) but TUI switched the booking to BRS. The person cancelled and is now going to use Jet2 from London.

There was a post recently in the CWL forum about a member's relative having her TUI Cyprus flight from CWL cancelled with the suggestion that she use BRS instead.

So perhaps the consolidation theory is well-founded.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
