A song that at first tells the horrors that some (especially the young ) experience -
'In the house where nobody laughs
And nobody sleeps
In the house where love lies dying
And the shadows creep
A little girl hides shaking
With her hands on her ears
Pushing back the tears
'Til the pain disappears
Mama says some ugly words
Daddy pounds the wall
They can fight about their little girl later
Right now they don't care at all'
I'm a big guy (6'3"), but that always brings a tear to my eye
But, is ultimately of hope -
'If the future's looking dark
We're the ones who have to shine
If there's no one in control
We're the ones who draw the line
Though we live in trying times
We're the ones who have to try
Though we know that time has wings
We're the ones who have to fly'
Such incredible tone from that bass, Keith Moon using gaffer tape to hold his headphones on and the most enthusiastic tambourine playing that I've ever seen 🤣
Sorry, I just can't help going back to this band. I've seen them live seven times and each was exceptional. Like all good Rock bands, they rarely release 'singles', so many of their songs remain unknown to the masses.
'All I know is that sometimes you have to be wary
of a miracle too good to be true,
All I know is that sometimes the truth is contrary
everything in life you thought you knew
All I know is that sometimes you have to be wary,
'cause sometimes the target is you.
All I know is that memory can be too much to carry
striking down like a bolt from the blue
All I know is that sometimes the truth is contrary everything in life you thought you knew
All I know is that sometimes the truth is contrary,
'cause sometimes the target is you!'
Note, the clock on the album cover is showing 12 minutes past nine. Or, on a 24 hour clock 21:12 - a reference to their 1976 '2112' concept album (pronounced 'Twenty one Twelve'), which 'made' the band. Clockwork Angels is also a concept album. Whilst each of the songs can stand on their own, the whole album tells a story. It is loosely based around a 'Steampunk' theme and the symbols on the clockface of the album cover are all from Alchemy.

RUSH -2112
Well, Ive referenced, it so I suppose I should post it -
Note, this is 20 minutes long.
Rush were under a lot of pressure from their record label to produce 3 minute long songs for US FM radio stations. Rush did not want to do this and thought they were going to lose their contract, so decided to produce one last defiant album, where the whole of one side was a single piece of music. A futuristic story of a man living under a dictatorship ('The Priests'), who discovers an ancient guitar. Going to the Priests, he is quickly dismissed. His belief in the world he lives in is shattered and he takes his own life ('My lifeblood spills over'). Shortly after, 'The Elders' return to reclaim Earth with the following message -
'Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
We have assumed control.
We have assumed control.
We have assumed control.
Note, the first part of the message contains 7 words repeated 3 times = 21
The second part contains 4 words repeated 3 times = 12
giving 2112!
The album was such a success, that the record label didn't dare drop them.

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
