Two rotations cancelled today as a result of the strike in Italy.

Ryanair - Bergamo

easyJet - Pisa

Tuesday 12 April 2016

The early morning mist/fog appears to be the reason why two Ryanair aircraft diverted to Birmingham this morning:

FR 8263 due at 0810 from Bergamo and FR 8235 due at 0820 from Palma.

The evening Brussels Airlines (operate by bmi regional) BRU rotation was cancelled today. The earlier two rotations did operate.

Thanks jfy1999. BRS seemingly not affected today - no Greek flights today so far as I can tell.

German industrial action today resulted in two rotations cancelled:

bmir BM 1841/1842 to/from Munich
bmir
BM 1827/1828 to/from Franfurt

The two other bmir Franfurt rotations seemed to operate as did the other Munich rotation. The bmir Dusseldorf and Hamburg rotations also operated.

Tomorrow is scheduled for more French industrial action. In the past month we've also seen industrial action in Italy and Greece affecting flights to the UK.

Ryanair
FR 504 from Dublin due at 0740 for some reason diverted to BHX, with the return operating from BHX according to the BRS website.

It seems it was the only aircraft to divert today. A couple of other aircraft landed around the time the Ryanair was due including an an Aer Lingus Regional (Stobart) from Dublin.

BMI Munich delayed by over 4 hrs last night. Apparently thunderstorms in Munich and crew in wrong places as a result.

Departing Palma delayed due to stag/hen drunk passengers. One offloaded.

strikes in france again this week. thursday looks bad as that includes air traffic controllers.knowing the french there could be problems before then.

Average delays yesterday due to the strikes were 2 hours. Now Liverpool has delayed flights due to security scare. That will have knock on effect this weekend

There weren't any cancellations at BRS though were there? I didn't see any listed on the BRS website arrivals/departures pages when I looked at teatime yesterday.

I heard that a passenger scanner at Liverpool was not working properly. Lots of passengers had used that scanner so could have taken something into departures. So they evacuated all passengers in departures back to landside and got them to go through the metal detectors again.

Reported today that an easyJet flight from Venice diverted to Cardiff Airport because of a hole in the BRS runway. Nothing else seems to have diverted with the hole seemingly quickly repaired - the diverted flight later returned to BRS with its passengers.

A few weeks ago we were talking about sinkholes in the area. I have no idea whether there is any connection with today's reported incident.

It doesn't sound like a sinkhole.

I can confirm it was a pothole that oppened up! Quick fix but the bosses thought they had a 50 minute window to repair and the concrete to dry so should have had time. On paper at least! Reality though is always different! When this window occured the last departure before the temporary closure was about 10 mins late and the Venice was expected orriginally about 1420, about 20 minutes ahead of schedule! So it was just a combination of timings that it had to divert! Why it didnt just hold I can only presume is a) fuel and B at that point the concrete had not set and they were not sure how quickly so why not just go to alternate straight away. It eventually left BRS at 1652, with a delay of 1hr 42 mins

Many thanks for that detailed explanation, ezy_brs.

There seems to be another strike in France today - they are becoming so frequent that they barely merit much press coverage here any more. I'm not sure how this will affect their air traffic controllers. So far the BRS website is showing no cancelled flights inbound or outbound.

I can confirm Yokel's post by thankfully (as it is horrible to deal with if they are) confirming that there were no cancellations. But now Eurocontrol are reporting that all flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle, Paris Orly, Marseilles and Nice have no fuel and airline operators are being told to 'double up on fuel' so they will have enough for the return journey. This is active from today and runs until the 30th of May. This is due to protesters barracading major oil ports and preventing deliveries to the airport.

I'm not sure what, if any, impact this will have on flights from BRS but this may have some impact if say flights are full and as they will need extra fuel then passengers may have to be refused to compensate the extra fuel required for the return trip

All this french ATC strike promises a great summer of work at Brizzle airport.

This week the entrance to the airport roadworks is being completed. There will be stop and go type of road blocks. Maybe chaotic especially as it is also a busy bank holiday period

Some easyJet disruption this evening. Not sure if it's connected with the spectacular thunder and lightning storms followed by a long period of torrential rain where I live a few miles from the airport.

EZY 6114 from Nice due at 1725 diverted to Cardiff.

EZY 429/430 to/from Edinburgh was cancelled

EZY 407/408 to/from Glasgow was cancelled

EZY 6035/6036 to/from Madrid is showing a long delay, current ETA back at BRS is 0255, nearly four hours late with it appears a corresponding late outbound departure

Due to current ongoing protests and blockades in France the EZY6114 diverted to CWL this evening as flights to Paris Orly, Charles de Gualle, Marseille and Nice are all required to carry enough fuel for the outbound and return. When this flight was due into BRS there was a thunderstorm and aircraft were in the hold but the Nice simply didnt have enough fuel to hold, so took the sensible option and diverted to CWL at approx 1930. This aircraft returned to BRS at 2208 to operate the EZY6035 BRS-MAD that should have departed at 1755 and pushed back at 2308, a delay of 5 hours 10 minutes

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
