Could be anything that warrents a flight cancelled. The 3 main things are tech aircraft, crew hours or slots weather airways or airport.
the thing with edi is that many rotations per day so a flight cancelled not too much of a problem except if some one has to be some where at a certain time.
But what ever reason its not good to see flights cancelled for what ever reason.
EDIs are usually full or nearly so. Looking at the booking engine several sectors are already sold out right up to 13 August, and fares for many others are eye-watering (well over £100 per sector in some cases) meaning those flights must be nearly sold out as well. End of July/August might not see as many business travellers but easyJet reduces its Monday offering from 5 per day to 4 per day on Mondays during this period.

I'd like to think everyone booked on the cancelled flight was accommodated on the two subsequent rotations yesterday but I'm very doubtful.

I'm looking at this from a personal perspective as I'm catching the late afternoon GLA in a few weeks and easyJet has already cancelled this once in recent weeks.

I checked the other easyJet flights around the time of the cancelled flight's departure and there didn't seem to be an excessive delays on inbounds that might have knocked on to the cancelled EDI.

I take the point about problems going forward though following enhanced EU procedures.

1. The Aer Lingus Regional (Stobart) from/to Cork this lunchtime was cancelled. Nothing else cancelled at BRS today.

I checked with the Cork arrivals page and saw that EI from Manchester due ORK at 1040 had diverted to Shannon. Nothing else seemed to be diverted at ORK this morning. I assume the diverted MAN aircraft was due to operate the BRS rotation.

2. Interesting non-diversion to BRS today. Ryanair from Faro due at CWL at 1125 elected to divert to EXT reportedly (on another forum) because of poor weather at both CWL and BRS, yet everything landed at BRS today, despite mist, including a couple of Ryanairs around the time the FAO-CWL diverted to EXT. Even the non-Cat3b equipped turbo-props and Ejets got in at BRS this morning according to the airport's web arrivals page.

I'm surprised the FR went to EXT as BRS, BOH or BHX are the preferred diversion airports for the southwest.

I have noticed at times in the past FR has diverted to EXT. We bont know about BOH or BHX if they had issues taking a divert, but cant understand why they did not divert to brs as they told the captain that brs was happy to have them and as local said there was no issues at brs the time of divert.

Very strong winds this evening. So far it seems that there has been no disruption at BRS. However, there is a forecast for 60mph gales in the Bristol Channel overnight and at rush hour time in the morning.

Numerous long delays today with some cancellations.

The inbound delays seemed to begin at lunchtime, carried on through the afternoon and into the evening and early hours as the knock-ons kick in. They involved, easyJet, Ryanair, bmir, TUI and TCX.

I counted nearly 20 delays from lunchtime until early evening from 30 minutes to five hours with around half two hours or more. More long delays are shown for later this evening.

In addition Ryanair cancelled Reus and Alicante and easyJet cancelled Madrid and a Belfast rotation.

Was there a particular problem this morning that led to the initial delays? Weather somewhere perhaps?

All the flights seem to have got in during the early hours of this morning when the winds were forecast to be high.

Thanks Jerry. I haven't 'liked' your post because I like the idea of the strike; it's for the information.

I thought they were behaving this year. Now that the main summer holiday season has passed I din't think to look for a strike.

And to think in the 1970s the French and others gleefully called Britain 'the sick man of Europe' because there were so many strikes in the country in those days.

To be honest i think France is a bit of a joke now when it comes to strikes. They seem to strike at the drop of a hat now. I'm also wondering if there were less strikes this year because of the French Presidential election.

Two of the four KLM rotations were cancelled today because of the weather in the Netherlands. Numerous other flights were also cancelled at AMS.

Another flight diverted into BRS to offload rowdy passengers. An easyJet flight from Barcelona to Liverpool landed late last night when four people (three men and one woman) were arrested for drunken behaviour on board the aircraft.

In the summer a TUI B757 travelling from Glasgow to Spain landed at BRS when two men were arrested in connection with their conduct on board, one of whom was subsequently sentenced to eight months' imprisonment.

If these people are found guilty at a court I hope the same sort of punishment is meted out.

I'd like to see these idiots have to pay the landing fees, plus any other incurred costs to both airline and passengers.

That would be the correct action but there is no mechanism in law to allow prosecutors to do it. The charges are usually breach of peace, drunk and disorderly or endangering an aircraft ( which is unlikely to be proven in most cases except terror related ones). Law usually just fines these offences.

You may be surprised to know that after arrest they are usually bailed to return to court. Here is the funny part. They are probablybailed in 24 hrs. Not just a case of 'ok furnish your bail and comeback on this day'. Its usually.....'ok furnish you bail and please sit in that police car, we will drop ypu off at your address in Liverpool'.

You may ask why oh why. Answer is simple. If the released person, with no means of transport back to Liverpool, is attacked, murdered, raped etc the police officer in charge is suspended and will lose job for breach of care. Thats the world we live in now.

As kraktoa says, the criminal courts are restricted in what they can order compensation for. However, an aggrieved (in this case the airline) could always take separate action in a civil court to try to recover such losses. The snag is that if the airline obtained a judgement it's likely that the person sued would have little money or any other means to pay compensation awarded by the civil court.

We don't gaol debtors any more in this country as they did in Dickens' day.

If there is sufficient evidence I hope that these people are charged in the same way as the TUI yobs a couple of months or so ago which resulted in imprisonment for one.

The decision to charge and if so with what offence(s) is that of the Crown Prosecution Service, not the police.

Further to the above, one man has been charged with being drunk on an aircraft and bailed to appear at Bristol Magistrates Court on 5 October. Two other men and a woman have been released with no further action being taken against them.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
