easyJet
flights from Alicante and Fuerteventura both due at 0125 cancelled. Presumably the outbounds on Saturday evening were also cancelled.

According to BRS Twitter in response to an angry enquirer, the easyJet ALC was cancelled for 'operational reasons'.

Today the easyJet evening Barcelona rotation has been cancelled and the return (inbound) Bordeaux also cancelled, although the outbound earlier in the day is shown as 'departed'.

again, I can explain! The Bordeaux diverted into La Rochelle with what I presume to be a pressurisation issue as it squawked 7700 (the emergency code) just over the north coast of France and descended to 10,000 from 34,000 and then flew to La Rochelle at 10,000 feet. Because of this diversion the crew are now out of hours and there are currently no spare crew to operate the Barcellona. Because of the crew being out of hours from the diversion easyJet have had to cancel the flight. Also of note due to there being no crew to operate it the EZY 6005 Faro should have departed at 0700 and departed 1148 due to there being no crew to operate it as they were all out of hours.

easyJet are having a bad summer this summer with regards to crewing. It is almost like they haven't got the manpower to operate the 13th aircraft effectively. It is shocking that they are running it like this. There seems to hardly be a day now where a flight is not cancelled. Yesterday (25th June 2016) 5 flights were cancelled!

If they are not careful easyJet are going to get a lot of bad press and loose a lot of customers over this summer.......

I remember one summer getting on for ten years ago - it might have been 2006 - easyJet cancelled numerous flights in June that year across their network including at BRS. The reported reason on aviation message boards was a lack of flight deck crew many of whom would have exceeded the 12-month maximum (900 hours?) had they not been carefully 'husbanded' in the early part of the summer.

I remember that my wife and I had return trips to both Edinburgh and Newcastle cancelled that June. We were given about two weeks' notice of the cancellations but what really annoyed me was that I had to ring a premium phone line to get my money back, so easyJet must have made a nice little sum from the thousands of people in similar positions to me. I've been flying regularly with easyJet (and Go before that) from BRS for 15 years - since the base opened in fact - and generally I've been very satisfied.

However, the experience of a decade ago left a slightly bad taste for a while but I carried on with them - too often there is no alternative locally.

You are right about getting a poor reputation though if flights continue to be cancelled.

Funnily enough on the topic of Newcastle, that was cancelled this morning due to no crew to operate it. The passengers were all put in taxis up the ones who were still willing to travel. Others claiming the standard refund option.

The maximum is indeed 900 hours they can legally operate. But strangely enough it is the cabin crew causing issues.

Also the French are up to their usual tricks tomorrow, Tuesday 28th June. Already as at 1652 on Tuesday, 27th June easyJet have Cancelled the EZY6071 Alicante and the EZY6139 Toulouse. Ryanair have cancelled the FR6026 Bergerac and the FR6022 Bezziers.

No doubt all flights flying into and over France will be given severe slots tomorrow morning but reading what it says on Eurocontrol's website, it will be like it has been the past couple of weeks. Severe disruption accross the whole of Europe for the first wave of departures and then they will return to work but as they would have caused disruption, like throwing a stone into water, the ripples will grow and grow and then we will also see further cancellations into the afternoon, meaning that crews will be out of hours to operate these flights

T
hanks for that ezy_brs. Full list of cancellations today now on BRS website arrivals/departures.

Ryanair: Beziers, Bergerac, Reus, Malaga, Alicante.

easyJet: Toulouse and one of the two Alicante rotations (morning/early afternoon).

bmi regional: one of the two Dusseldorf rotations (morning) although with the number cancellations they are now making it's difficult to know whether this is related to the French strike action or not.

Addendum

Altogether Ryanair cancelled 166 flights today across Europe (that's sectors not rotations). BRS's share was over 6% of this total, far more than any other UK airport in terms of the BRS base size and number of Ryanair daily flights from/to Lulsgate.

More bmi regional rotations cancelled today:

Morning Frankfurt and Dusseldorf.

I posted about this recently in the BRS bmi regional thread with punters on Skytrax saying it was becoming a regular occurrence. I've certainly noticed several cancellations most weeks in recent times and not all seemed connected with strike action in Europe by any means.

Saturday 2 July 2016

Another cancelled bmi regional rotation today - Frankfurt.

easyJet also cancelled the second (afternoon) Nice rotation: due out at 1355 and return at 1835. It's the only one of 42 easyJet rotations today from BRS that's been cancelled. A Tweeter on the BRS feed enquired why her flight had been cancelled and was referred to the easyJet flight tracker which contained an apology for the cancelled flight but no explanation as to why.

Tomorrow's two rotations are shown as sold out in both directions as is Monday's single rotation. Must be a good chance that today's cancelled rotation was also well patronised.

I've been using easyJet since they arrived at BRS (and Go before that) and have generally been well satisfied. However, the number of flights they seem to be cancelling that have no overseas industrial action connection is beginning to be a worry.

Not offering any explanation why the flight was cancelled is pretty general in the industry where true communication with passengers is obviously regarded as of no importance.

As with the vast majority ( a good 98% of them!) it is all down to a lack of crew to operate the flight. Granted the industrial actions in France will inevitably have some impact. But the real reason is an apparent lack of crew. easyJet want to shy away from the truth and as such put the reasons down to 'operational reasons' or just 'we have regrettably had to cancel your flight'. easyJet also cancelled the Malaga last night on the 02nd of July at only 30 minutes before departure time for the same reason!

It seems to be the evening Malaga that always cops it if anything gets cancelled. I don't know why it is but it usually is!

It has got to the stage now where I tell my family and friends to book Ryanair over easyJet now! At least with Ryanair they do not
a) overbook and
b) cancel unless necessary due to strikes in France for example

There have been a few delays due to lack of crew this morning also

Ezy J are rely not doing themselves any favours here are they! running that tight with cabin crew will only come back to haunt them in time, are they having problems with requiting new crew at bri or is this a general trend across all there hubs.

It is accross the whole network. Apparently BRS are fully recruited! A couple of my friends were denied places saying they were full! But from what I have seen that is certainly not the case!

Tuesday 5 July 2016

The weekly French ATC strike (the 13th in the last 14 weeks according to Ryanair) is on again, so far leading to the following cancellations at BRS:

Ryanair: Beziers, Bergerac and Palma

easyJet: Barcelona, Toulouse and Bordeaux

Addendum (5 July 2016)

Looks as though Ryanair cancelled 102 flights (51 rotations) today across its network. With six BRS flights cancelled this amounts to nearly 6% of the total, a disproportionate amount given the number of flights that Ryanair operates to/from BRS.

Last week BRS seemed similarly disproportionately affected.

Can't find out how many easyJet flights have been cancelled although the local paper says 46. If that is so BRS's six cancelled flights amounts to 13% of the total.

It appears that BRS may be being hit harder than most of Ryanair's airports whether in the UK or in mainland Europe in percentage terms.

I can confirm that 46 flights were cancelled accross the easyJet network today. This shocked me as the strike really wasn't as harsh as last week. So not all Controllers took part. Worst slot delay was the EZY6005 Faro of 29 minutes. Last Tuesday we had delays of well over 2 hours on many flights. So this really wasn't a severe strike at all.

Thanks ezy_brs. Disappointing then that BRS saw 6 easyJet sectors and 6 Ryanair sectors cancelled today. I noted the cancellations already in place on Monday evening so at least punters had a bit of notice.

EZY 6272 from Dalaman

BRS web arrivals page is showing the above service with a scheduled arrival time of 0105 in the early hours of tomorrow (Tuesday) as 'diverted'. ???

All I have to say is it's an input error!
Looking at the arrivals page the EZY 6272 landed at BRS at 0228 this morning, 83 minutes late.

Friday 15 July 2016

One of the five easyJet Edinburgh rotations was cancelled today:

EZY 425/426 - due out at 1445 and back at 1735.

Turkey - reported coup d'etat.

Re this evening news concerning a reported coup d'etat by elements of the Turkish military with major airports closed, the only Turkish flight currently due in to BRS this evening/tomorrow morning early hours is TCX 7835 from Dalaman. Fortunately, it is en route to BRS, currently over Macedonia, with a reported eta of 0148 (3 minutes later than scheduled).

EZY to Dalaman took off around 15:00 hrs. Perplexed aftervthe events of last night. Dont know how many booked and how many took the leap into the unknown.

The main tourist areas are in the South West and quite a distance from any trouble in Ankara and Istanbul. So generally people will be able to enjoy their holiday with a small chance of trouble. Though i'm sure the airlines will be keeping an eye on the situation.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
