This relates to the western apron that is currently being remarked and stands re-positioned to face north in connection with the western walkway whose construction should begin in the near future.

I think most of the rest is routine maintenance.

Yes of course that would explain it.

More work on the terminal development?

Yes, it will be almost certainly be in connection with building the walkway to the western apron.

The walkway is a quarter-mile long covered corridor on 'stilts' leading from the main terminal building at above ground level with stairs/lifts down to individual stands on the western apron.

Should be ready by next May.

RWY 09/27 CLSD DUE WIP MON 0150-0530 TUE-SAT 0200-0530 SUN 0000-0530. 19 JAN 02:00 2010 UNTIL 26 MAR 05:30 2010

No scheduled or charter passenger night flights this winter though there are some mail flights, only two in and two out each night so far as I'm aware so it looks as though runways will remain open until they are in.

Some years ago Royal Mail axed numerous mail flights and stopped flying from a number of airports altogether. Bristol used to have 7-8 a night in and out.

The daft thing is there is a massive mail centre for much of the Bristol region at Filton Airport but when the mail flights were transferred there temporarily the winter BRS had its runway resurfaced (the fiasco) there were numerous complaints from local residents. The area around Filton is considerably built up, unlike at BRS.

I don't know but my guess is that the airport is effectively closing during these hours so work can proceed at night taking the western walkway across the access road used by buses that service aircraft at remote stands.

If the airport remained open and had to accept a diversion there could be problems unloading passengers if this the reason.

Or of course it may just be to save money but if that were the case I would have thought the partial night closures would have been for the whole winter.

Thanks, I wasn't sure either because as we know work resurfacing the runway has only recently been done over the last couple of years remembering all the bad press at the time.

The night closures could well be a money saving exercise or to assist with the terminal WIP.

The runway was actualy resurfaced three winters ago with the notorious weekend closure over the first weekend of January 2007. Time flies doesn't it?

They've been active resiting stands on the western apron throughout the past few months but as far as I'm aware this has carried on without disrupting traffic.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
