I have just come across this article.

It is a while away yet. However still an exciting prospect.

Is Heathrow any closer to this, I have kind of switched off the 3rd runway thing. Too much indecision. I don't feel Virgin have anything really to say in the short term, although it is welcome news.

To me the LPL management would do better to pursue other links before Heathrow, which looks way off, a return of KLM maybe more advantageous for a hub link.

Liverpool is two get new direct rail links to Glasgow and Edinburgh soon, operated by Trans Pennine Express. With this in mind, I don't see either cities as domestic air links for the future, personally I would say within the UK the only two possible cities which could be considered for air links would be Aberdeen and Southampton, both been popular in the past and difficult to reach.

Which seems now to be Virgin according to their latest release but it hinges on a 3rd runway there. God knows how long that will take !

I imagine that eventually the Flybe routes will be taken over by a Virgin branded short haul operation even if Flybe is still the operator.

Interesting article, have been New York air links to Liverpool over the years.

Interestingly a survey conducted in 2018 asking people what destinations they want from Liverpool, number one was New York. For United however I think Liverpool would be an attraction for passengers from the US in particular.

I think New York would come up no 1 in most regional airport survey's. There seems to be an obsession about US links. Going back to Liverpool if United were interested it would be imo as a market for US tourists. Not only do you have Liverpool FC in the city who are massive in the US you've also got the cultural thing with the Beattles.

Yes I agree, it's very common to hear American voices in the city, the Beattles is a huge draw.
