That's a decrease in based units for DSA next summer then and a decrease in flights.

This summer 2011 Thomson need 3x based aircraft at DSA but looking at the above schedule for 2012 that you have posted Hull City Fan that only require's 2 based aircraft. I was expecting a lot more better news than that as they had been talk of a increase in Capacity..

I'm not too sure where Hull City Fan has obtained their information from, but the information that is provided in the Thomas Cook Summer 2012 brochure does not correlate across to this timetable - Bourgas is not featured, and all the other times are wrong apart from Palma on Tuesday. There is also a lack of staples such as Zante and Heraklion which is most confusing. You'd have thought there'd be a flight to Crete before any other Greek destination! I think there is yet more to be released, so there is hope yet for Leeds and Humberside also!

Ryan Hull City Fan was referring to Thomson's not Thomas Cook?

I know - I was just saying that Thomas Cook has already released their 2012 brochure, and have taken some seats on some Thomson flights. The destinations and times do not match up with the above timetable:

(Note Bourgas, Palma, Ibiza and Enfidha are all on Thomson flights)

The information I posted is from the 1st edition Summer 2012 brochure that I collected today from my local shop.

I will scan it up shortly...

It just baffles me that Thomas Cook is offering holidays on flights that don't exist by the looks of things. You would have thought that the country's two largest tour operators would actually talk to eachother!

Maybe it was in the plans but for some reason after the Thomas Cook brochures went to print , Thomson changed their plans. Although stated in the back of their brochures, I don't think Thomas Cook are actually selling these holidays to be honest. As much as I want this Thomson Brochure to be missing information, unfortunately I dont think it is :(

Its not an encouraging sign if TOM are scaling back in 2012. I was hoping for growth across the board, at HUY too...

I thought the local travel agents had been told there was going to be a return to long haul in 2012, or is this an extra brochure that is yet to be published?

Doesn't the main brochure cover all the destinations, I thought the smaller brochures were just for a more in depth look?

It is still only the first edition so there's plenty of time for this to change although you would think if they are going to bring back long haul they would need to give it a good lead in time. I think most people book long haul much earlier than the usual med packages.

Hi

I've just looked at the changes that Thomson's are making. Its a vastly reduced Summer 2012 to this summers 2011 programme and it dose'nt bode to well in comparison.

4 Routes dropped
Bourgas, Heraklion, Larnaca, Zakynthos
4 Route Reduced
Bodrum = (From 2x Week to 1x Week), Dalaman = (from 4x Week to 2x Week), Enfidha = (from 2x Week to 1x Week), Palma = (from 6x Week to 5x Week)
No Change
Alicante, Antalya, Corfu, Faro, Las Palmas, Ibiza, Kos, Lanzarote, Malaga, Menorca, Paphos, Reus, Rhodes, Sharm El Sheik & Tenerife

That is a total loss off 9 weekly flights and 1 based Boeing 737 aircraft.

Could mean the net loss of at least 60,000 passengers then.

As for the travel agents talking about long-haul flights. I would like to know how they are privy to this information, and even if they are, how they would be allowed to talk about it to customers so freely. Was under the impression the yields on these routes were very poor.

That isn't good for DSA. I wonder if the 'Smart' move at the time with Thomson moving from LBA to DSA is starting to dwindle slightly?!
I was under the impression that TOM were doing really well with their yeild's on flights from DSA, with further expansion 'in-mind'. With them dropping 4 routes completely, with more reduced and moving a based aircraft away, means that they must've had a bad year in 2010 to make this drastic step.

That is what I was lead to believe too. I heard it was one of the best performing northern bases in the summer in a number of ways but either like you said last summer put them off further expansion or the outlook this summer is not very good in terms of bookings... :dunno:

It could be that this represents what they feel is safe to put on sale, taking account of the economy and the huge number of people who are wondering if they will have a job by this time next year - public services staff being the obvious. I would imagine that all tour operators may find that initial bookings are low whilst people find out what the future holds for them, but if bookings do OK, then there could always be an increase, or additional destinations in later editions. Thomsons have done this before. Equally, they have often pulled flights in later editions too, so it can work both ways. Unless something extra comes later, it is rather a depressing prospect for Yorkshire airports, with such reductions at DSA and still a meagre 2 flights from LBA - one of which might be reduced from a 767-300 to a 737-800 judging by posts on the LBA forum.

I thought that there were 3 aircraft based this summer but when I have checked the arrivals recently, there only appeared to be 2. Anyone explain?

There is 3. If you take tonight's arrivals for example:-

00:40 - TOM3773 - Arrecife
00:50 - TOM3761 - Larnaca
02:40 - TOM3743 - Heraklion

Some days like tomorrow for example, the 3rd a/c isn't used until early afternoon as the morning rotation to Mahon doesn't commence until 23rd May 2011.

The 733s are due to be replaced by 738s in May 2012, however not all 733s are to be replaced. It is said that some of the routes would not support a 738 from DSA hence being chopped, and also that TOM could not justify putting an extra 738 in there due to the fleet being needed elsewhere.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
