I wonder if MAG have also told the T1/T3 based airlines that to expect late passengers so therefore potential late departures...for MAN based aircraft possibly causing the schedule of the specific aircraft to run late for the rest of the day.

LS@MAN,

I'm sure the airlines will be only too aware of the problems on certain days last week and the potential for more delays as we approach Easter.
That said, I believe the airport has stated it has been in close contact with its partners - airlines, handling agents, border control etc. to try and resolve, or at least manage, the issues as effectively as it can. Time will tell.

In that latest MEN article, Karen Smart has said that new staff are being recruited, but the employee quoted states employees are also leaving or considering doing so. I guess it's a case of what the rate of the net gain (hopefully) for security personnel is that will help to determine passengers experience over the coming weeks.

A neighbours relative worked outbound security. Furloughed, then finally went back.

Quit after two weeks due to the workload and overall atmosphere.

Just to reiterate that the issues discussed here over the past few weeks are not unique to Manchester.

Dublin Airport yesterday issued a similar warning that MAN issued, about potentially a few weeks of issues due to staffing.
I’ve also recieved reports from close friends that immigration at Terminal 5 Heathrow has been rather, trying, the past few days too.

There have also been a few social media posts and one letter in the YEP about LBA issues too.

once again, I’m not saying that this doesn’t mean Manchester shouldn’t sort the issues out. But I do think Manchester has been ‘disproportionately’ dumped on in this thread when other airports are facing very similar issues. The past is the past and I know MAN has a rep for that, but when taking about the here and now, MAN is not in a unique position, with other airports struggling despite protests on here to the contrary.

It appears a degree of patience is needed and few airports are ‘crowning itself in glory’ right now.

don’t worry I’m aware the bigger picture is an issue for you so my post wasn’t really aimed at you. But carry on…..

Apologies, but if your argument is it’s rubbish at MAN but hey I found some social media posting suggesting there are queues elsewhere and it could be as bad there as well - it’s pretty desperate.

I am glad MAN has recently admitted that they have staffing issues rather than as before when they seemed to suggest it was all the passengers fault. This change of tack may be due to the recent senior leadership changes. I am hopeful that they can improve things soon. The decision to delay opening security in T3 is unfortunate but understandable if they can’t properly staff it yet.

There clearly needs to be a change in culture otherwise they will continue having high turnover and poor staff relations, but hopefully they are acting on that.

Its actually quite difficult to make out what is going on there. Those pictures look like they are taken from the "secure" side of the passenger screening, the side after you've had your belongings X-rayed. It's as if the screener is not in control of the number of bags being screened. The fact that somebody is filming the situation highlights the lack of control. I'm surprised the DFT/CAA aren't present as I'm fairly sure this wouldn't be tolerated from a security standpoint.

It’s taken from the queue for security. That one is normally fast track where the people are piling up trays. The queue kind of does a u turn and where the filmer is standing around that bend. Just past where the two agents are standing is where the trays head in to the scanner.

This is pre screening.

I have great sympathy with the staff that are there. They must be working under intolerable pressure and copping abuse from some punters into the bargain for matters that are beyond their control on the 'factory floor'.

I'd like to see senior management have the guts to go onto the front line and shoulder the intense disquiet of passengers. It's their responsibility even if staffing levels across the industry are currently inadequate. That's why they receive hefty pay packets. Earn them!

Surely action by the CAA can't be far away...
A queue in itself isn't sufficient for the CAA/DFT to issue a Deficiency Notice, but the lack of control in what is meant to be a secure area will be.

Having had the displeasure of experiencing similar inefficiencies working at another airport, I can tell you with certainty that having airport management in situ in these conditions doesn't help the situation, it makes it very much worse. My personal experience is unrepeatable on a public forum. Working in conditions that are more akin to a bar brawl will see staff leaving in their droves.

so if management can't sort that out, who can?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
