Never in all my years managed to fly on a 747 but seeing it the other day hit me in the feels. Tis' a graceful bird. I know the 380 is my favourite plane but the 747 still has that awe doesn't it?

I remember the days of Ward Air and having to stop at was it Prestwick? to take on more fuel for the Atlantic crossing but love now that the airport finally got its extension to enable a 747 to do a flight to Houston non stop without having to land somewhere else to refuel.
BHX - YYZ was never a problem with regard to range for the B747-200 that Wardair used. The flight would often then go to Leeds before returning to BHX prior to the direct flight to YYZ.

The B747 was a wonderful aircraft to fly on. I've flown on -100, -200 and -400 series. You always knew that you were on something special. Back in the days when Boeing got it right!
Loooooong flight from Dover, done it a few times the jet lag from all the time zones soul is destroying. Crew definitely going to need a rest after that leg.

:D
DOV - BHX? That's not a loooooong flight. Try LHR - LAX (12 hours), followed by LAX - AKL, just 2 hours later (another 12 hours) both in economy. Then you'll know what 'jet lag' is!

I've also flow on the A380 (business class with Singapore Airlines). Truly wonderful.

I'm pretty sure Wardair also combined some flights for a while to Toronto combined with Exeter of all places probably but using either the DC-10 or A310.

I don't think runway length was ever an issue for them at BHX.

I remember one summer they had to use DC-10 as the 747 with over hanging engines had removed all the grass down both sides of runway …. The runway has since been widened !

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
