Looking at the photo a couple of posts back, its showing 6 Wizz aircraft, looking at SWAG site its saying there is 5. One aircraft has left storage by that.
Correct, there are now only 5x Wizz A321s at CWL.
1 of the 6 aircraft (G-WUKI) departed to STN on the 26th April (for maintenance I presume), and then to LTN on the 28th (for continuing storage).

With the exception of Crete, the major Greek islands also have extremely low cases and the Greek Government have been vaccinating the islanders at great speed. Rhodes, Kos, Corfu etc. should be on the green list.
A lot of this stinks of politics rather than science. Just look at the Indian variant and how long it took to put India on the red list, only after a trade deal.

Wizz have Crete starting on the 18/6 and Larnaca and Corfu on the 19/6 so hopefully by then those destinations will be Green.

Very interesting interview in the business section of Wales on Line, with Owain Jones the CEO of Wizz UK, he believes that all their UK bases should have at least three aircraft or up to five aircraft to make them profitable. He also stated that they are in CWL for a long future and further expansion.

Definitely an interesting interview!

This I find interesting;
Wizz Air has set up a base in Cardiff Airport, with an initial nine routes, but it is expected that this will evolve to include more destinations, and potentially some going even further afield, in the foreseeable future.
Where could they possibly go that is further than SSH?? I'm not sure Abu Dhabi would work from CWL? Would they want to get into long haul across the Atlantic?

And....
Flybe operated several routes out of Cardiff, so Wizz Air knew the demand would be there. And, Mr Jones believes the Rhoose-based airport should be seen as a strategic asset for South Wales.
Interesting that he compares to Flybe rather than Thomas Cook. Thomas Cooks route network is more fitting to the route they have launched rather than the Flybe ones, which aside from Faro and maybe Rome, the only ones that would work on the Airbus would be domestics, which have pretty much better covered. Paris maybe?

Certainly a great read, a few hints, and hopefully they stick to their word about sticking around. They are certainly the right Airline CWL needs and probably the last option they had.

Apparently it's been mentioned at Wizz HQ in Luton that they are looking at Cardiff being a 3 aircraft base with 15 to 20 routes maybe even by S22.
Guess it's a case of wait and see.
With the Flybe routes it's possible they could look at France and Italy. As for further afield I can only think of Abu Dhabi can't see the USA happening. Banjul or Tel Aviv are the only wildcard options I can think of.

I still think they could turn their attention to some of the European cities where they have a presence, e.g. Prague. Budapest, Warsaw, Rome, Paris, Milan, etc. If they develop from CWL as much as he would like, it would be huge boost to their passenger figures.

yeah. Plenty of european fish to fry.

Could Wizz route network at DSA and LPL give potential clues as to where they might expand to from Cardiff in the future especially the sun routes?

Wizz have only launched 9 routes with their first aircraft, so I can't see more than 7 or 8 more new routes being added as that would be a big risk.
I can see increases in FAO, PMI and ALC, as well as ACE year round. Dependant probably on what we see from FR.
As for new routes i think it'll be the usual simple holiday routes
IBZ
MAH
LPA
FUE
BOJ
SOF
DLM
AYT
And maybe another Greek route like RHO

As for city breaks they would need to be cautious. FCO and maybe MXP, PRG and KRK are the only ones I can see working, maybe CDG or ORY.
Some of them will likely only be 1x weekly to start with.

What might make more sense in the short term is to have a part based 2nd aircraft shared with a other UK base, therefore spreading out the risk and not overloading with new routes.

It'll be interesting to see if we potentially see any non based flights from WizzAir Hungary in the future instead of just WizzAir UK flights. Maybe as a stop gap on a few routes before a 2nd or potentially 3rd based aircraft in the future.

I'm assuming that the sun routes at LPL and DSA are operated by Wizz UK, and the others by Wizz Hungary with away-based aircraft, or is that assumption too simplistic? If my assumption is correct how many Wizz UK aircraft are currently based at LPL and DSA?

Wizz air UK currently don’t have a base at LPL they tend to operate to mainly Central Europe and Poland and a few others near those places from Liverpool. Worth also noting that Wizz Hungry operate all flights from LPL.

DSA has 1x based A321 of Wizz UK I believe.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
