LEEDS BRADFORD AIRPORT SUPPORT GROUP STATEMENT

View attachment 21498

February 13th 2021

The Leeds Bradford Airport Support Group has existed since the 1980s, and does so to represent the greater majority of people in Leeds, Bradford and Leeds City Region, who support their local airport, and wish to see it improved to become an airport fit to serve this region.

On 11th February 2021, Leeds City Council approved plans by Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) to replace the current 56 year old terminal building along with its several piecemeal extensions, with a new £150m carbon neutral and BREEAM Excellent terminal building, eliminating the many shortcomings that the existing terminal suffers from. The new terminal will be one of the most modern and environmentally efficient in the world and will enable LBA to not only greatly enhance the passenger experience, but also to handle larger, more fuel efficient aircraft types which currently cannot be handled. The plans also amend daytime flying hours to 0600-2330, which are in line with those in force at other regional airports.

The Support Group welcomes this decision. The growth of passengers at LBA had been previously approved by Leeds City Council and is in accordance with Government Policy to better utilise airports outside the South East. This growth, combined with the new terminal building, ensures that LBA remains well within the annual CO2 emissions budget for the airport as set by Government. The decision is also in accordance with both Government policy on aviation and Leeds City Council's own policy with regard to LBA.

We would therefore like to thank LBA Management for recognising the need for this development after years of under-investment in the airport and for their considerable efforts in putting forward a strong case for approval. We also wish to thank those people who, at the Plans Panel meeting, put forward such well considered, coherent and balanced support for this scheme, fully recognising the current environmental issues, but also understanding the value of the airport to the region in terms of jobs, and its considerable contribution to the region's economy. We also wish to thank those Councillors serving on the Plans Panel who gave this much needed scheme their support, despite the pressure they were being subjected to by opposition groups, and others. Finally, we wish to sincerely thank everyone who signed our petition on line, adding support to our campaign to support LBA.

The Support Group now looks forward to construction of the new terminal commencing in the future and the jobs it will generate within the construction industry. Further ahead, we also look forward to LBA becoming an airport fitting for the entire region, with enhanced access via the planned Parkway Rail Station together with further enhancements to public transport.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
