Thanks for the updates as always, Scottie!

Re: "rest of terminal" - is this just check-in desks and some more reclaim belts? Or is there something else that's not opening in July?

Also, does anybody have any renderings / plans for what the renovated T2 Legacy looks like? Most of the renderings they're showing off are for T2X...
As I understand it, from trying to hear from the back of the meeting room and with no amplification, there will just be the remaining check-in desks and baggage reclaim belts to be brought into use.

At the moment I haven't seen or heard anything specific about eh refurbishment of the old T2 building. I think that once T2X is finished then we might start to receive more news.

some of the flyovers that showed the T2X check in hall also showed the legacy side, although of course these could be superseded by now. I’ll try and get a screen grab.

Edit; here’s a still frame, although the same video also said they're still building the M56 direct link and legacy MSCP extension.

My apologies for the lateness of this update, however my airport contact has been off due to illness.

Here is update #124 dated 17th January courtesy of the MANTP team to whom full credit is given:

Thanks for the earlier replies Marni and Scottie - sorry for taking a while to get back to you.

The rendering of T2Classic there makes me wonder how much they're going to retain. The pink check in desks are an explicit choice there, and happen to be the same colour of the current desks (so they're keeping the desks?). Ceiling layout / panelling also looks the same. The space just looks a little less cluttered and... white? compared to today. Based on that rendering it looks like less of a gut renovation and more of a re-cladding. We'll see!

I paid a visit last week to the airport to enable me to do an update however, with the external walk to T2X coming to an end, the opportunity to get decent photos was rather limited.

At the end of the Skylink, as you are about to enter T2, there is work taking place at the top of the ramp that led into the old Meet & Greet area. This appears to be removing the concrete islands that would have had barriers mounted on them..

Walking to the far end of T2, and going through the car park, you can look over the entrances to T2X at arrival level.

If you continue at ground level you will find after a few minuted walk that you are in T2 West Multi-storey car park with a view over the west apron and also around to the new Zulu remote stands that are being constructed. You also can see the new 800 series of remote stands, which will ultimately form contact stands on the west wide of Pier 2.

Back at T1 multi-storey car park I took 2 photos. The first is a general view along the west apron.

Immediately behind the Finnair that is taxying out, you can see taxiway VB and just beyond the parked coaches is where the work on Taxiway J is taking place. This updates the erroneous heading given in the MANTP Updates.

I believe, but not certain, that "cause and effect" is running multiple different scenarios and what the effect of those scenarios might be. For example baggage getting stuck in the baggage belts and fixing the problem.

I've seen previously new terminals will get large groups of people to do dummy runs though check-in and security to test systems, perhaps they will be looking for volunteers?

That's usually airport workers and their families.

Not always - airports often want to use volunteers for these trials who have no connection with / minimal knowledge of the airport, so as to simulate as best as possible how passengers who fly infrequently will cope with things.

I attended two trials at Heathrow T5 before it opened. They were well planned trials with you being given boarding cards, clearing security, there were then scenarios in the airside area, before you had to find your way to the gate to board your non-existent flight. You then got your next scenario - some of us were sent through international arrivals & immigration, some through flight transfers for another flight. There were some LHR staff on the trials I attended (you could tell them as they wore their airside passes) - but most of the volunteers present were wearing lanyards with a passport holder on, with our passports in it.

We all know the debacle of T5's opening day - it was widely reported at the time. It was all down to BA's IT provider giving T5 check-in staff wrong username & password combinations for the T5 IT system, so they all tried to logon once & got "wrong username or password" messages. By instinct you try a second time just in case you mis-typed anything. Try the third time and your account is locked out. Basically all the staff locked themselves out of the check-in system, so no bags could be sent down the handling system. (This info is from a lecture I attended, given by a certain Willie Walsh, so I consider it to be very accurate). The vast majority of the passengers who managed to fly from T5 on opening day had hand luggage only.

Looking forward to visiting the new T2. Although with only flying Brussels airlines every 3 months or so I may have to wait a while until after the opening. A few questions I would like our experts on this forum to clarify:

Are there any planned trails taking place for members of the public/frequent flyers?
What date is the official opening?
And is there any clear way forward yet as to what will happen to T1 once T2 is all complete?

I'm not aware of any public involvement in forthcoming trials - but I'll keep my ears open.

The first part of the terminal extension opens on 1st July which will include a single check-in island and all of the airside facilities.

There is still no news with regards to what the ultimate plans are for T1.

By the way I don't classify myself as an expert!!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
