Work on fitting out the T2 extension continues at a pace

Just a query for anyone who might know. Are the scanners being installed in the new T2X security the new CAT type? I know the airport had said they ultimately hope to move to this type, but am not sure if the timeline works for the July opening.

I'm not aware of any public involvement in forthcoming trials - but I'll keep my ears open.

The first part of the terminal extension opens on 1st July which will include a single check-in island and all of the airside facilities.

There is still no news with regards to what the ultimate plans are for T1.

By the way I don't classify myself as an expert!!

Thanks for the info as always @Scottie Dog :)
And apologies, maybe I used the wrong phrase...certainly in the know.

Are these the scanner types they have in Amsterdam as in nothing needs to be taken out?
I am praying for these...

And your answer is:

"T2x will open with AT x-ray to start then as we move to 2022 we change all our Scanners to CT machines. We are in tender at present, with a trial running at STN."

I hope that helps.
Just to clarify...the CT machines are the scanners that enable passengers to leave everything inside their hand luggage?

My airport contact seems to have gone AWOL at the moment - not replying to emails etc, but I do know that she has another project that is rather more important that sending files to me.

Hopefully i will have 3 weeks updates for you next week.

Looks great! Looking forward to trying it out in the summer.
My only concern is MAG may drag the whole TP out now with the corona virus situation...I hope not as it still justifies being done for the eventual future passenger increase not to mention the fact that infrastructure has been neglected greatly in the past.

Still no updates from my MANTP contact and so I thought I would take the opportunity to post photographs than some may have seen from the airport's Facebook pages.

Having waited for what appears to have been years I have now received 4 updates from the MANTP team and I will share them in individual posts. These will be the last updates for what I think will be rather a long time due to the team now being 'home working'.

Remember when you look at some of the images that, whilst they may look identical to those previously posted, there will normally be an update in the dialogue at the side.

Also keep an eye on the NOTAM/OAN forum as there may be bit of information relating to airfield work coming through on there.

Update #130

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
