The reality is that if LBA secures long haul, it's more likely to be on the likes of the A321 XLR, but once the terminal works are completed, there's nothing to stop wide body flights out of LBA if they are a viable option due to runway length etc. Overall, regular wide body ops seem unlikely as more and more airlines switch to long range narrow body ops .

However, at no point have I heard LBA state they 'dont want' wide body ops long term, and certainly 8 years has never been mentioned at any Consultative meeting during discussions on long haul ops. For now, with our inadequate arrivals hall, a wide body discharging several hundred passengers at once would be problematic - especially if anything else was off loading at the same time.

The airport have said they dont want any wide-bodies for 8 years.
8 years? That statements about as unusual as some of the stuff i post on here haha
Surely if a widebody operator wants to use LBA because they see the markets there then the airport will try its upmost best to accommodate, at the moment i guess its not on the priority list but once the terminal is expanded it will be.

I think the days of long haul = wide body are long gone. As White Heather said the A321NX has got a seriously good range and only has 50 less seats than a B767/2. You don't need to allocate extra fire cover either so reduces costs

So that is only connections in an Eastern direction I presume!!!!
Not necessarily- I’ve used schipol on numerous occasions to fly to the US, Hawaii and Mexico. Works far better then LHR as you don’t end up having to change terminals which is a nightmare at the best of times at LHR.
Indeed the last time I flew from LBA to Chicago via Schipol the LBA flight arrived three gates down from my US flight!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
