Newcastle International Airport celebrates its one millionth passenger this year

Last week, Newcastle International Airport celebrated its one millionth passenger to travel through the Airport since the start of 2023.
The lucky passenger, Lei, an academic from Durham, was travelling from Newcastle direct to Frankfurt with Lufthansa on 27 April.
Lei was “really surprised” when the Airport and Airline welcomed the milestone passenger with £75 to spend on luxuries in the Airport’s World Duty Free store.
The one millionth passenger was travelling directly to Frankfurt for business.
Lufthansa has been flying between Newcastle and Frankfurt since 2021, connecting passengers to the global hub of commerce, culture, education, tourism and transportation.
Popular amongst business and leisure travellers alike, Lufthansa’s 6 weekly flights also connect passengers, one-stop, from Newcastle to destinations beyond the airline’s largest hub, including Munich, Berlin, Rome, Vienna, Zurich, Hamburg, Hong Kong and Cairo.
Chris Ion, Aviation Development Manager at Newcastle International Airport said:
“We are pleased to be celebrating our 1 millionth passenger year to date 2023. It is great to be celebrating this milestone with Lufthansa, which is a valued airline of the Airport, providing 6 weekly direct flights to Frankfurt and their network beyond. As we head towards the busy summer holiday period, we look forward to welcoming more passengers to the Airport for their business and leisure trips.
Heinrich Lange, Senior Director Sales Northern Europe, Lufthansa Group Airlines said:
This celebration is a symbol of the recovery and reaffirms that the desire for people to travel is strong. Connecting people, cultures and economies in sustainable way is our mission and we look forward to welcoming even more of our passengers across the North East onboard soon. Thank you to Newcastle Airport for the cooperation and collaboration underpinning this shared success.
