We are all the Support Group. But suggesting we who you consider to be the Support Group 'step up to the mark' makes it sound like we are not doing enough.

Various 'Support Group' posts have been published on line, encouraging public support. A really good statement has been issued within the last 24 hours, and we have taken on the anti airport lot numerous times by correcting their nonsense, all the while also encouraging anyone who would listen to also log their support just as you are doing ( and thank you for that). I personally have also been in regular contact with LBA and I am posting what I find out on here when it is permitted. So I think we have already stepped up. A lot has been done.

As for an interview with someone representing a publication I have never seen nor heard of, I have a full diary all week and others have full time jobs to do and may not be free to do an interview. Any of us are able to chat to this reporter if they are free, willing and able. It doesn't have to be Aviador, LBAspotter or myself.

Actually its always been a bit of a mystery to me what the LBA Support Group is. I didn't realise all of us on the forum were members. Probably down to me not paying attention.

Its a good opportunity to get publicity for the group. Is there an appointed spokesperson or a 'core' member with that responsibility?

No. I am a founder of the Support Group in 1989. One of 5, but the only one left. I kept the name going over the past 32 years, after the 24H campaign. by continuing on the ACC and from 2009 onwards, reporting on here. Had I not done so, the Support Group would have ceased to exist years ago.

The Support Group now consists of anyone who wishes to see LBA grow and succeed and who wishes to include themselves in the group. There is no formal membership as such. In recent years, Aviador and LBASpotter have done a lot - including things I am unable to do. They have made a huge contribution. The three of us take the lead but we can't do everything. If anything, it is us that need others to 'step up' to share the load, if they can. Not everyone can. We all have limits and every contribution helps.

Facing the media is something you really need to be trained for or have experience of, especially if it involves an interview rather than a written statement. They tend to twist your words and you can easily do more damage than good.

True. Which is why we have tended not to do interviews. Never trust a journalist. In my experience, they always have an agenda.

Sometimes, its better to just issue a statement which sets out our view. That is what was done yesterday.

To my knowledge, we have nobody who has media training and the ability to outwit journalists intent on trying to outwit us. It's a pity. But better saying nothing than being made to look silly. I am sure we all know our facts but in an interview, it can all too easily unravel.

I believe that I am too young to really do much with the support group at the moment, I'm definitely among the youngest of the members on here - if not the youngest (unless you count Tom from Blue Sky, but I think the account is technically Nick's). However, if I stick around the area in the coming years I believe I can play a decent part in the Support Group's future. It's reassuring to know I'm welcomed as a member of the support group - if you discount friends and family the airport is the single most important thing in my life

Very definitely welcomed. Having a young member is good and helps secure a future for the group. There is no pressure to step beyond what you feel comfortable with right now.

The LBA Support Group has had a press request from a local media outlet. They have already covered the anti airport brigade, now they want the supporter side. It would just be via a phone conversation . I’m just too busy with work commitments at the moment as maybe moving jobs.

Would anyone like to do it? If so let me know ASAP and I’ll put you in contact.

Having cobsidered this overnight I would be happy to speak to them.

However, the way I would play it is to say we have had issues in the past with how the media have portrayed the support group and whilst happy to be interviewed we would insist on approving the article before release.

Worth a try. Thank you. However, the article should be about LBA, it's plans, what changes they would bring and why rhey are important, not about the Support Group and that should be emphasized. We shouldn't be getting drawn into discussing who the Support Group are other than confirming we have no connection with LBA and what we stand for.

'A group of like minded business people and local residents, who understand the benefits to the region of a successful airport, support it's development, and who are tired of a noisy minority who constantly seek to block it's development to the detriment of the entire region'. Or words to that effect.

However, no doubt others will have a view on this.

For me, I wouldn’t be drawn in to the competition and referencing alternative views - they get too much airtime. I think a positive statement of what we are about would be better, but that is just my thoughts.

All I can do is what I think is right, although I think I am pretty well aligned with the airport.
I have no doubt the question will be asked who the group are and I will use your suggestion. What would you want me to say when they ask the question "how can someone join the group?" Just tell them that by joining this forum they automatically become a member?

My suggestion to accept the interview but with me retaining editorial control is better than just turning them down flat. They may not accept this condition, we shall see.

Perfectly happy with that. The Support Group was, however, set up specifically to counter the rantings of LACAN at that time, who were also in the ACC, hence the reference to opponents.

If you agree to do this in behalf of the Support Group then from my point of view, you do it as you see fit and provided the reporter meets your terms. Otherwise refer them to the statement done a couple of days ago which sets out our position. It's on the LBA Support Group Facebook page.

As for joining the group, if asked, then it is a group open to anyone who wishes to be involved and is accessible via F4A.

However, that is only my view. Aviador, LBAspotter and others may have their thoughts.....

Irrespective of all the scores on the doors business, I still think that at the end of the day it's the merits of the application that counts. Hopefully this will win the day and those in Menston who's cats can't sleep at night can enjoy their new double glazing.

I've been up at the Cemetery this morning spreading the word. I've also been around the neighbours and if everyone I approached signs up thats going to be a lot of positive submissions.

No one I approached at the cemetery or any of my neighbours (apart from one) knew about the planning application or www.supportlba.co.uk. Neither did a Jet2 engineer who lives down the road from me- totally oblivious!

Is anyone available to go up to the cemetery this afternoon?



Its a golden opportunity for the LBA Support Group and has to be acted upon. Surely its for someone in the Support Group to step up to the mark?

It's a bit late for that now. It's a shame the airport didnt put up some signage, almost all people up there would give their support.

That wouldn't be allowed by the council. The airport have been in bother in the past for putting up signage on their own land without approval and had to remove it. Not a chance on council land outside a cemetary.

Ok, but nothing to stop the support group doing it if the need arises in the future.
