I believe on J2 website it indicates more to come for winter sun, so hints maybe at new destinations, as the core schedule for all bases has been released. I’m hoping for Cape Verde, but possibly Gambia and a return to Egypt? Who knows, but still a solid offering over winter, if not a bit vanillla.

Vanilla makes the money.

Would imagine Egypt will come on the destination list shortly.

I appreciate it makes the money @Sherburnflyer92, but from a personal point of view I have done most of those destinations to death, so it would be nice to see something new. Either way, it’s a solid offering and helps to keep the terminal occupied in the winter months.

Agree however it’s what makes the most money. There is now an offering to Marrakesh in winter which is good; just need Egypt to join and the LBA winter map will look decent.

If I remember correctly the only reason Sharm el sheikh was cancelled before was because of safety concerns at the time. I don't know enough to know whether those problems still exists. It is worth noting that Tui also continued to operate there from LBA after Jet2 pulled their flights.

It was a cash cow I am lead to believe.

I think it’s one of the very reasons monarch survived for longer due to the cash coming from Sharm/Hurg.

I can see it coming back especially with Jet2holidays. And easyJet holidays getting bigger … Jet2 need to act.

I believe Sharm is safe. Always has been but its press that destroy tourism. I felt safe in Sharm anyway.

Low cost and leisure carrier Jet2.com has become the last airline in the UK to operate the Boeing 737-300 in passenger service.

Once the mainstay of many airlines around the world, this 737 variant is now becoming more rare compared to Next Generation and MAX variants.

Jet2 currently has a fleet of 7 Boeing 737-300s active in its fleet, flying mostly out of its Leeds Bradford base. They are set to be retired in 2026.

Another new route announced. Another only going from MAN and STN. La Palma. Lovely island, especially if you like volcanoes! Gone are the days where Jet2 give LBA new routes first. LBA may still be their home, and Leeds their base, but they are becoming increasingly MANcentric. I suppose having a CEO from the Manchester area doesn't help our cause . Bring back Phillip Meeson!

Disappointing as this is, I say fear not, because red and silver loss will probably be an orange gain, even if not La Palma specifically. Then they may have to up their game a bit. Think they currently have it cushy from LBA. That said I still don't want to detract from everything they have done to get us where we are though

Members of the forum I'm here to remind you of the announcement in October 2023.

New destination Agadir - launched from not only Manchester, Birmingham and London Stansted, but also LEEDS!

And okay it maybe a replacement of Ryanair to an extent however it's also recently launched it's other NEW Moroccan destination - Marrakech from ... LEEDS.

Let's have a look at reasons La Palma may not feature from Leeds:

1) The smallest of the large 5 Canary Islands - La Palma is considerably smaller. That therefore limits the amount of hotels on the island which brings me onto point 2 very nicely.

2) Amount of available hotel rooms and/or beds available to contact. That dictates how many times they can fly to the destination (frequency of routes); and from how many bases. Jet2 in peak summer are sending 378 seats to La Palma and 378 seats back out of La Palma. Therefore if you only have 300 beds available what is one to do? Sell it as seat only going against their bread & butter / business model. Clearly they've done some work behind the scenes hence Stansted launching in the Winter - more contracted beds/hotel rooms. Bringing me onto point 3 nicely.
{Dont come at me for that maths - I'm clearly just making it easy for members to understand my point}

3) They clearly have a very smart revenue and planning team. So ... if there is 300 beds and/or rooms available; naturally the business is going to pick where the market is / an airport with a large catchment area. Looking at it MAN is the largest draw in the North so clearly to allow a route to get up and running a businesses (airline/tour operator in this instance) will naturally set it up from there.

4) Fleet availably and what is planned. No one knows this - but one suspects there is some free space in MAN on what one assumes is the 737-800 fleet to operate to La Palma. Meanwhile LBA maybe full with no wiggle room. So would we rather them drop a frequency or 2 to a destination they fly to regular to try this new route for it not to succeed? Drop an Antalya and Dalaman (both very profitable and lucrative) for a La Palma only for Jet2 to drop La Palma as it wasn't a success form Leeds? I'd rather they didn't do that. And from an airport perspective would LBA rather have 2 flights at 378 each or 2 flights at 200-280?

One very niche route (very Germany orientated) , launched from a airport/base with a huge catchment area that will assist in Jet2 growing a presence on a very small island (in comparison to the big 4) with fewer hotels (in comparison to the big 4). Go for it - launch it from Manchester. I'll be happy to see it winter seasonal in a few years from LBA.

Currently i dont think id want to visit any island with volcanoes on it, msm have not really covered it but volcanoes and earthquakes are kicking off all over the globe more so than normal!
But you happy going to Costs Blanca where it’s prone to flooding along with heavy thunderstorms.

Come on there is a big difference between abit of flooding which can happen anywhere and been cremated by a volcano haha
Gota frias are the big storms that can hit anywhere in spain altho south east spain is generally the driest part.

No just as normal as any other year. La Palma last went off in 2021. Before that was 1971.

Etna always goes off but she's just a little tease.

As for earthquakes they seem to happen on the tectonic plates which is not really surprising is it. And yes they occur around Rhodes/Kos in Greece / Bodrum/Izimir in Turkey area due to the plate there but they are in the grand scheme of things not bad in comparison to others.

Good job there are no flights to Valencia from LBA then. There was a programme on the other night about the flash flooding there in October 2024 in which 220 people lost their lives. Terrifying stuff.

To be fair La Palma is the island splitting into two due to volcanic activity (and global warming if you believe Netflix lol 🙄) When it does eventually fall into the Atlantic Ocean it will likely take much of Spain, Portugal and the Eastern sea board of America and the Caribbean with it so there's not much point in worrying about it.

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?
