FN could be the last one earmarked for retirement in 2027 so 3 years worth probably isn't such a waste of money. Remember only one 733 to go next year and based on this year's performance there has to be higher candidates than FN - thinking FO specifically

I wondered this myself!

Look at TUIs 787s. They look shocking and in dire need of a repaint. But Jet2’s look fine!!!

New base incoming

Looking on Jet2.com it seems flights and holidays are bookable from Luton from April 1st 2025

17 destinations
Ibiza, Majorca, Fuerteventura, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Crete, Rhodes, Zante, Verona, Faro, Madeira, Alicante, Girona, Reus, Antalya, Dalaman

And only last year Steve Heapy said there'd be no more bases after Bournemouth! Jet2 throwing down the gauntlet to TUi and easyJet in their own back yard!

So, unless Jet2 plan to lease aircraft, or pull some out of other bases, they're going to need a good few more aircraft for next summer given the new bases at Bournemouth and Luton. They must already know where they're coming from.

It would be nice if they generously sent 737 300s off down to LTN and upgraded ours back to 800s given the increased terminal capacity, but somehow I think that will only happen when they go to aeroplane heaven around 2027.

Where are Jet2 doing to find 5 aircraft? I just hope they aren't removing some from here due to the CLEUD issues
If that were the case, they're going to have to cancel literally thousands of booked holidays from LBA and give refunds, as next summer has been on sale for a long time. Such a move would be very damaging for the airline, and airport, although it would cast a great deal of attention on the ludicrous situation created by 'They who shall not be named' and Leeds City Council. I suspect anyway that given the Inquiry into the CLEUDs isn't until March 2025, with the outcome around September 2025, LBA will just continue as they are certainly until the process is done.

2026 will be interesting though, for all sorts of reasons.

LTN will only have 2xA321NEOs based, but there will be plenty of w-patterns from other bases giving LTN the number of flights of a “5x aircraft base”
So Jet2 are going down the W pattern road for the first time in their 22 year history? That's quite a seismic shift in how they operate with increased operating costs too. You would have to assume that from 2026 the LTN base will grow and the need for W patterns diminish. It makes you wonder why the sudden change in direction and why another base opening at relatively short notice.

Definitely a retaliatory measure, especially moving away from a business model (no W patterns) that has served them so well for the whole of their current history.

I don't blame them for doing this when they have such a strong product, but equally there is surely no smoke without fire in this bigger picture.

Perhaps Orange Vs Red/Silver is the new UK Series Sporting Event. Oh how we love a good fight and oh how we have craved proper competition at LBA for so many years

In fact, looking at the LTN schedule, it'll be 2x NEOs based (in peak summer), and 8x w-patterns per week - so nowhere near the 5x aircraft mentioned, more like a 2.5 x aircraft base.
For comparison:
BOH - 2x aircraft based = 27x weekly departures
LTN - 2x aircraft based (+w patterns) = 36x weekly departures

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
