Absolutely! But, don’t tell anyone, whilst I appreciate the costs and reasons for not doing it, I’m firmly in the an extension would bring massive benefits camp.
Although current happenings certainly wouldn’t support value for money!

Fantasyland LBA 10mppa airport now with a peir and air bridge boarding for several aircraft also from a new viewpoint. The tower wouldn't work in that location though.

They needs to be a pier that extends outwards to accom about 3 or 4 aircraft on each side, that way your getting double the amount of aircraft onto the pier with each side been avai. Plus piers extending east and west. Anychance of a image showing this plz? 😁

Two wide bodied stands were on the original new terminal plans so I'm just running with that.

They needs to be a pier that extends outwards to accom about 3 or 4 aircraft on each side, that way your getting double the amount of aircraft onto the pier with each side been avai. Plus piers extending east and west. Anychance of a image showing this plz? 😁

I'm just disappointed that in the second image there isn't a MyeasyJet2Travel B738 (first picture, remote stand, second from the right). Glad to see the Aer Lingus 737 classic in both!

I can envisage the bottom picture, it's around 8:20 on a midweek morning, the 8:30 Jet2 departure to Alicante waits on stand while the 11:30 Zakynthos aircraft waits for now on a remote stand, the Aer Lingus mainline flights to Dublin and Belfast wait on the adjacent stands. The Cork flight waits on a remote stand operated by a former Jet2 737 classic variant. The TUI dreamliner has been towed onto one of the widebody Airbridge stands (I see 2 possible ones) waiting to do a daytrip to Dalaman while the 737 on the remote stand has just positioned in after diverting to Manchester last night due to the 10 knot crosswind - some things never change. The poor passengers to Palma will have to wait. The early Ryanair arrivals from Alicante, Berlin and Milan have arrived and are seen preparing to return to their respective bases - and do I see a MAX 10 on the Alicante rotation? (Most distant Ryanair)

Do I see a Channel Express B737 and an Air Malta A320 behind the pier? Also, hard to make out, but on the far remote stand, have Jet2 started acquiring MD-80s?

What you envisage yorkshire lad is really what level LBA should currently be at, and if not now then certainly once REGEN is completed and beyond.

No need for a tower at all. Multiple cameras and a vritual tower which can be anywhere. reckon it would be cheaper than a traditional tower which has to cater for people (rest rooms, toilets etc) Put up a main lattice structure somewhere with cameras and the extra camers to infill any blind spots. the video presented to controllers can then be augmented with overlays such as weather or aircraft callsigns/speed. Yes, I’ve seen that system before. If I recall, it was at least partly implemented at Doncaster Sheffield before the site shut down and operate by Liverpool controllers? Personally, I’m really not a great fan of digital/remote towers.
Swapping a physical glass view for a video stream comes with clear drawbacks, not just when the stream breaks. Direct sunlight glare can completely wash out camera sensors, and rain droplets on lenses create instant blind spots. There’s also an element of spatial disorientation, they can feel a bit too detached and game like compared to being in a live tower situation. Digital zoom options exist, but a screen feed will never match the depth and clarity of simply picking up a pair of binoculars and looking out the window. The very nature of this tech means there can be frequent camera outages.

I'm with you Aviador - I personally think our tower is iconic and holds lots of memories as a young spotter, including a tour by the legendary Stan Haddock!

It’s iconic, but holding onto it isn't practical. A new tower should ideally go on the south side by the main hangars, giving a central, clear line of sight over the whole runway and apron. The current tower is operationally limited, and its stairwell takes up valuable terminal footprint right next to Duty Free that could be far better used.

I agree, I was talking more about the VCR which I believe has a couple of look alikes in the Caribbean!
New taller base over on the Southside with that cab on top and I'm happy! 😊

And yet it works! London City no longer has a tower. All cameras with augmented views and controllers sat at Swanwick. Overlapping cameras allows redundancy for failures. Wiper/cleaner systems take care of rain and there are 3 independent data routes.

I think the fire station is where it is because back in the day, the airport firemen had to multitask and had other 'duties' to attend to in and around the terminal.
