It’s usually the airlines that are culpable for the fines. Perhaps LBA might operate differently and cover the costs themselves.

A move to DSA is unlikely. Putting a couple of aircraft in there? Perhaps but apparently this is not on the agenda according to some high ups. Jet2 are focussing on putting the NEOs in bases that will significantly cut fuel costs, hence GLA and EDI.
But it's been stated today on the Jet2 thread that the 737 300, 800, and A321 NEO all burn very similar amounts of fuel!

Yes but with more pax capacity on an A21N this could represent quite a saving on longer sectors. i.e. Scotland to Med.
What I will say though is that B738s are still quieter than B733s though, but it appears not quiet enough

Yes, however the 737-300 capacity is 148, whereas the A21N is 232.

B733: 2,400kgs per hour / 148 = 16.2kg fuel burned per hour per person

B738: 2,400kgs per hour / 189 = 12.7kg fuel burned per hour per person

A21N: 2,400kgs per hour / 232 = 10.3kg per hour per person

So the A21N burns 6kg less fuel per hour for each paying passenger than the B733. Given the longer sectors to and from EDI & GLA, that’s a huge difference in savings for Jet2

similar fuel burn per hour, but very different when you look at fuel burn per passenger by distance/time considering an a321neo can seat 90 odd more passenger than a 733, and 40 odd more than a 738.

your fuel costs per seat on a neo are 20% lower per seat than a 738.

In which case why didn't any of the newly delivered NEOs go straight into service on the longest sectors to make the biggest savings, instead of going to MAN?

Based on that then, it should be Belfast and Newcastle next.

It is, provided they sell all the seats.

I agree. And a seat taken up by one of us, is a seat not available to someone who isn’t a die hard opponent of the airport but might be concerned about exaggerated claims from GALBA and just wants to hear from the horses mouth. As I’ve said before, that’s who the airport is targeting at these meetings.

When I attended the Rawdon meeting it was apparent it was being attended by the GALBA deciples who were clearly there as a group. It was clear their intentions were to influence the public as much as they could by coming out with ridiculous comments like you can't even have a conversation without being interrupted by aircraft noise. That particular comment came from a lady who claimed she was from Menston. My parents live within a stones throw of the airport and never have a conversation interrupted by aircraft noise.

Although I understand not everyone can make it to one of these meetings, if you can you should try to attend to add balance.

because it is not the only factor when deciding which aircraft serve which routes, although yes generally you may wish to put the most efficient aircraft on the longer routes.

you can sell 20% fewer seats and end up with the same fuel cost per passenger tho. tbf LS as with most LCCs does a very good job of filling planes, so i think it is not unreasonable to suggest they would be able to put them on routes where they can sell to a similar load as the 738/733 they replace.

So far its me and one other person. Thats hardly going to redress the balance!

Plenty of 'hard' talk on here but when it comes down to it everyone shies away, leaving the field open to the opposition.

@LBAYORKIE whilst I and others appreciate your frustration I really do think you need to be more respectful for other commitments that others have, especially those that still work full time and have family commitments. Personally I have already explained these are not in the right location for me. I will happily attend one in the right place at the right time but please stop going on about this

I've said it before and I'll say it again. These are community events to provide information, and answer questions . Its unfortunate that the NIMBY group hijack every one. Perhaps, now they think they are victorious, they may not bother. Either way, these events have zero bearing on the airport or it's future development. The time to mobilise is if the airport submit a planning application relating to night hours and movement limits. At that point, I would hope every last one of us supports it on the Council Planning Portal because that is what matters.

I really think that the regular veiled criticism of people who don't attend these events should stop. Whether you do or you don't won't make any difference. By all means, go if you want to tell G****A what you think of them but if you cant go, or you don't fancy a verbal battle with a bunch of fanatics, it's not going to damage LBA. Nothing you say or do will prevent a fully funded organisation doing what they do.

LBA are fully aware the nature of the beast is that these events always act as a magnet for the moaners who want to get their grumbles off their chest. They're quite prepared for it.

Im going to keep reminding members as each new meeting approaches. Theres got to be a location that would suit everyone.

Its not criticism I'm trying to motivate.

And there is absolutely no harm in that, it is in fact very creditable, but perhaps please choose your reminder words more carefully as they are coming across as insistent rather than reminding

I am persistent by nature.

I do to accept this is a forum for discussion and that active support for the airport is not its purpose.

Just digressing. Read an interesting article on the BBC and other outlets regarding labour implementing restrictions on complaints from new residents about bar and club opening hours to not stifle businesses. Oh the irony.

Someone in Rawdon has brought a complaint against the Turkuaz open space. It’s been open like that since Covid. It’s not Malia or Magaluf for god sake. These people who move and complain should sign a bloody disclaimer saying they business was here first.

I think the move is welcomed but they also need to think about the bigger picture such as stifling the airport not just bars, restaurants etc

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
