Looking on the positive side, it may encourage a drive to attract more non based operations that can operate between 0600 and 2300 hrs.Furthermore, FR seems to be able to operate a successful base ex LBA without really encroaching into the 'night period '.

I dont think that will compensate for airlines that decide to reduce operations with based aircraft, and remember its based aircraft that generate the jobs.

The problem is almost entirely down to Jet2 sadly. They use by far the most night quota movements. If LBA don't get this sorted in their favour then expect a reduction in their based aircraft , fewer flights, higher fares, and a reluctance by other airlines, orange or otherwise, to open a base here.

Taken to its extreme this could lead to either flights diverting once the summer movement limit is reached or LBA being subject to legal action. Either way, it's not good, so an appeal to the High Court or a planning application is a must.

What sickens me most is that this issue had literally gone away when the council approved the new terminal.snd change of operating hours, only to come back with a vengeance when LBA withdrew the planning application. They used the nice new terminal as a way of getting it through the plans panel, but that's now coming back to bite.

Im guessing, but I imagine that LBAs legal boffins will be crawling all over the reasons for these CLEUDs being dismissed and that will determine the next course of action. The fact they've lost the appeal reflects badly on those advisors and they won't like that one bit. Im told LBA felt confident about the outcome but clearly someone has read the signals wrongly.

Well, I am sure LBA gave it their very best shot, so not sure how realistic an appeal is, although the airport could use it to spin things out a bit.

Im sure LBA gave it their best shot. Im not certain what a further appeal would achieve other than spinning things out. Really its certainty that the airlines and airport need and so a new planning application might be a better option.

This is a major blow however as an independent body/person has ruled on this and clearly signals that the airport is the one 'out of step' and not LCC and local objectors.

I suppose this could dissuade airlines from increasing their offerings or deciding to open new bases until the uncertainty ends
Except of course that since this ‘uncertainty’ started, the airport has committed a very significant sum to the terminal works and new stands. Even if you argued that phase 1 of the terminal work was started a while ago, the decision to move straight onto phase 2 and the work on the stands are all recent. Also recent was the work to secure the bank financing of the project. The airport owners - and the banks - are taking an enormous gamble it the prospects of the business all hinge on the decision of the CLUED process.

I agree. LBA can still be a highly successful operation even within the current constraints.

More likely that they feel the constraints can be changed via a standard planning application. They are obliged to submit a planning application within 12 months of the airport achieving 4.5m passengers to review whether the existing section s106 conditions are appropriate for greater than 5m passengers.

I my opinion I know there will be more information to come out, but is a again another frustration for LBA as we always seem to have to fight and fight to gain anything that is seems as expansion I do hope there is some planning in place to either submit or maybe conditions but as previous post said to add additional stands and new developments will need a return

Can they not just put a planning application in?
If this was approved before with the planned new terminal how could they reject it this time? I Jo it’s a different application but can say look you approved this before

I would expect we will see early morning arrivals in the hold until 0700 more in future should they turn up early. Shame they can't hold at 500' overhead G***A HQ.

At present we have in the region of 14-18 night movements daily. Clearly that's going to exceed our 2920 limit long before the clocks going back.

not at all good news for LBA when all the neighbouring competitor airports have much greater flexibility especially on departures between 6 and 7 am. No doubt LBA will have a contingency plan and I suspect they will do their upmost to support jet2 given their importance and scale at LBA hopefully that won’t be at the cost to other operators at LBA……

Can't wait for all the negative reporting any day now by BBC, ITV, YEP, YP, T&A, and local rags lihe the Wharfedale Observer. Not.

It will be very interesting to hear Vincent Hodders response. I do wonder if he has known for a week or two. As I reported at the time, both he and Charles Johnson missed the ACC at short notice after being 'called away' and I did suggest at the time it might gave been connected to the CLEUDs.

yes it will. If LCC now decides to take enforcement action and therefore as a result airlines have to start amending or even potentially cancelling flights this will soon get very messy and hack both airlines and passengers off. It’s time some of those local politicians who consistently fail to back the airport started to feel some heat from their constituents for the negative actions they constantly take in respect of LBA…..The local MP and the Mayor of WY turning up at LBA earlier this week for a photo op and to take credit for something which actually had nothing to do with them seems even more hollow now.

It’s time they followed up with some actual actions to support the airport….

Perhaps the airport knew and invited them with a secondary purpose, that being getting them onside, although frankly, neither have influence over the plans panel should they submit a planning application, or the High Court if they go down that road.

Broken Britain in action.

Damn right. Well not broken Britain.

Just broken Leeds council, Brian dead Labour morons in the council, and heavily bribed tossers taking back handers from anti aviation see you next Tuesdays.

Am I reading it right?

We cannot take an emergency during “night period” because some moronic climate change cultists sat and said no? This council is seriously deluded and dangerous.

I’d happily stand in front of them all and rip them a new one. Verbally. Of course.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
