Eastern Airways route restarts

March
Mon 22nd = Southampton – 10x weekly (2x daily Mon-Thu & 1x daily Fri, Sat)
Fri 26th = Newquay – 4x weekly (Mon, Thu-Fri & Sun)

Eastern Airways route restarts have being further put back.

Fri, April 30th = Newquay – Restarts 2x weekly (Mon & Fri)
Mon, May 17th = Southampton – Restarts 10x weekly (2x daily Mon-Thu & 1x daily Fri, Sun)
Sun, May 23rd = Newquay – Increases to 3x weekly (Mon, Fri & Sun)
Thu, June 21st = Newquay – Increases to 4x weekly (Mon, Thu-Fri & Sun)

Eastern Airways have acquired 732+ slots (35,868 seats) at London Heathrow for summer 2021 season. Which equates to 11/12+ weekly (2x daily Mon-Fri & 1x Sat/Sun) service. These do not appear to have legacy rights and are probably being loaned from British Airways.
They are shown to operating to Teesside, but as we know Loganair currently operate this route so they maybe used for something else. eg to Leeds.

Eastern Airways have acquired 58+ weekly slot pairs at London Gatwick. It looks ike theey may also picked up the Newquay - London PSO contract.

With the return of Eastern's service to NQY tomorrow and a whopping 3 departures, Ive been on the website to see how many seats are available - with the LBA NQY sector currently not bookable at all - presuming it has sold out, and NQY LBA still letting you book 8 seats (max they allow) so presume a few still empty, but still looks a strong start for Eastern, hopefully they can keep it up.

They need bigger aircraft in the route. A J41 with 29 seats isn't enough. We have filled an E190 on the route in the days of Flybe.

Filled a 148 seat 737-300 when Jet2 operated LBA-NQY.

LBA - NQY started summer 2009

2 times a week. Very popular at the time but as the business started to focus more on the Mediterranean package holidays it was dropped in favour of destinations further afield.

Due to what is being described as a lack of demand it would seem that Eastern Airways has further delayed the restart of its Leeds/Bradford - Southampton route. The service will now recommence June 21st at a reduced 5x weekly frequency operating as follows.

Monday & Tuesdays
EZE600 = LBA 07:00 - SOU 08:15 / EZE601 = SOU 08:50 - LBA 10:05
Thursdays
EZE606 = LBA 17:00 - SOU 18:15 / EZE609 = SOU 18:50 - LBA 20:05
Fridays & Sundays
EZE606 = LBA 16:00 - SOU 17:15 / EZE607 = SOU 17:50 - LBA 19:05

It looks like the normal 10x weekly (2x daily Mon-Thu & 1x daily Fri, Sun) service recommences from September 5th.

Wild rumour on the dried fruit forum tonight that Eastern Airways management were out and about yesterday and are looking to have a go against Aer Lingus Regional (Stobart Air) on the Leeds/Bradford - Belfast City route.

P.S I had heard for a very reliable source that Eastern Airways were seriously thinking about expanding operations from Leeds, but a route to Belfast wasn't mentioned in the plans. London was!

I do hope they consider it. If true then I wonder what London airport they would fly to. It would be nice to see flights to LCY but on the other hand would be nice to see LHR back as it would be good for connections and if they put the prices right with decent flight times it might do well.

But these are just suggestions and what I think.

I do hope there is some truth in these “rumours”. After all how long have we been saying LBA is ripe for someone like T3. Whilst competing against EI on BHD may initially seem strange, the route did do well for BE that the current EI cutbacks are disappointing, even allowing for COVID. On the other hand do EI know something definite re T3 plans and has that prompted the decision? A LCY route would be risky in my view. For LHR to work, it must have attractive flight times, must have a code-share/interline agreement and offer more than 15kg of baggage. Otherwise not much more than point to point will be attracted and we all know what sort of numbers that involves - not enough. Possibly also an opportunity to increase NQY capacity. Wonder then if there maybe even more in the pipeline. Long overdue if there is any truth and hope in any of this

Eastern really missed their opportunity to take on the BHD route when it was first up for grabs- they just seemed to ignore it. Im happy with EI and wouldn't want to see their traffic diluted. Also the point has been made that unless Eastern have some very good interline agreements on LHR it simply won't succeed. My view is that that BA were the best chance for the route to survive. LCY (and LGW) have never been successful from LBA and I don't think anything has changed, there just aren't sufficient connections to be made at those airports and point to point traffic alone isn't sufficient.

I know this is going to sound wrong from a perspective of a LBA supporter but as much as I want to see more regional flying done from our airport I would much rather it be done with another carrier (Loganair).

Eastern just do not fill me with confidence.

Loganair aren’t fans of LBA so I couldn’t see them operating from here especially when they operate from nearby Teeside with a number of routes there including LHR. It would be nice to see them back here at LBA but unlikely in my opinion.

Eastern would be more likely from LBA than LOG.
