Kenny Jacobs, Ryanair chief marketing officer, was visiting BRS today and was interviewed on the local tv news. He said all the things about the airport that the management would be pleased to hear and suggested that BRS would feature in the airline's expansion into Germany and Scandinavian in the next year or two. I hope any German routes don't hinder bmi regional's routes to that country with the valuable LH code share.

That's sounds promising regards to Scandinavia . I would agree that I wouldn't want to see the routes operated by bmi jeopardised . Any suggestions of extra aircraft etc ?

No, nothing like that sort of detail. The interview was on Made In Bristol Tv (channel 8 Freeview) which I occasionally look at (their news programme is on at the same time as ITV West news) and I struck lucky tonight with a feature on BRS that included Shaun Browne the airport aviation director and Kenny Jacobs of Ryanair although the interviews were separate.

The interviewers with this tv station are youngsters (at times it almost seems it's some sort of work experience) so I never expect penetrating interviews. They usually just accept what the interviewee tells them.

Kenny Jacobs was complimentary about a number of aspects of the airport (I suppose he would be if he was visiting to promote his airline to the public) but the only concrete thing mentioned was the airline's concentration on Germany and Scandinavia and BRS's likely featuring. I think a Ryanair spokesman (it may have been Mr Jacobs but I'm not certain) said much the same thing about a German route or routes from LBA when visiting that airport recently.

Ryanair have stagnated at BRS in recent years with their overall network (some routes come whilst others go) so it would be a positive move if the number of destinations and rotations increased significantly but if they do it won't be this summer as Mr Jacobs said the programme is already out - 28 destinations and just under 100 weekly rotations (the number of rotations would actually be slightly down on summer 2014 in that case).

The local rag carried a piece today based on an interview with Kenny Jacobs which suggests that Ryanair wants to become the biggest carrier at the airport. The article begins:

[textarea]Ryanair wants to be biggest carrier flying out of Bristol as it targets more planes and routes from city

Low-cost airline Ryanair is looking to cast off its budget image as it reveals ambitions to become the biggest carrier flying out of Bristol.

"The only problem we have is the number of aircraft," he said. "We have 300 aircraft on order. Our current fleet is about 200 so having the big number of aircraft coming in will give us the option to deploy more aircraft here in Bristol to serve more leisure routes and more business routes too."[/textarea]

The full article can be read at http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Ryanair-wa ... story.html

I do wonder how realistic this is and whether the writer has gone in for a bit of journalistic licence. Ryanair will have four based aircraft this summer, a long way behind easyJet's 12 and it's still growing. If the aspiration came to fruition both airlines would be carrying at least four million passengers a year and it's difficult to see where they would all come from.

Possibly more likely is the message that Ryanair intends to grow at BRS when more aircraft become available which would be good news after several years stagnation. As it grows its fleet the airline will doubtless looking to expand its operations at many of its airports.

Reus looks as though it has been dropped for summer 2015 but there is extra faro services now up to approx 12 per week during August

Reus has remained in the drop down box on the FR website but I seem to remember checking the booking engine a couple of months ago to find no flights available. Without Reus there will be 27 destinations this summer, one less than Kenny Jacobs mentioned in his interview.

He also talked of 97 weekly rotations through the summer. I haven't checked yet - I never do until the season starts because Ryanair tends to move things right up to the brink - but 97 would be considerably down on last summer which saw 102, 110, 106, 106, 115 and 110 weekly rotations per week in the months from April through to September respectively.

Faro was increased to 11 per week last August and, as you say, this August it will be 12. Add this to easyJet's 15 per week and there are nearly four rotations per day across both airlines right through the week (although there are no charter flights and haven't been for a while which is somewhat surprising). Last August there were 26 weekly rotations between easyJet and Ryanair and they were all shown as sold out for the last ten days or so of the school holidays coming back to the UK.

Summer 2015

Further to my previous post, I have had a look at Ryanair's timetable for the coming summer and there are more weekly rotations than the 97 mentioned by Kenny Jacobs but one less destination (now 27) now that Reus (2 x weekly last summer) is no longer bookable although it still appears in the airline's drop down menu on its website.

The programme is still slightly down on summer 2014, although August is slightly up, with weekly totals of rotations each month shown (2014 totals are in brackets) as follows:

April 102 (102)
May 102 (110)
June 103 (106)
July 102 (106)
August 117 (115)

The main reasons for the slight fall in rotations in the early part of the summer are reductions in weekly rotation numbers on some routes with one or two others starting slightly later in the season. Girona is 5 x weekly all summer, down from between 7 and 9 x weekly last summer. Gran Canaria is also 2 x weekly except for August when it returns to the 3 x weekly that it operated right through recent summers.

There are no additional weekly rotations (up to 4 from 3) that occurred in June last summer with Tenerife and Lanzarote.

On the plus side Knock is 4 x weekly in April and May before reverting to the 3 x weekly of recent summers and Budapest is 3 x weekly all summer instead of 2 x weekly all last summer.

Finally, Dublin sees more rotations. From April to August the weekly totals respectively are 20, 20, 19, 17 and 20. The corresponding figures for summer 2014 were 21, 21, 14, 14, and 14.

On past history the timetable may yet be altered.

Ryanair - Cologne and Stuttgart

I've posted elsewhere that I wonder if this is speculation based on Kenny Jacob's (senior FR figure) comment to the Bristol news media that Germany and Scandinavia would feature at BRS when the airline began taking delivery of its new aircraft.

The reports mentions cities such as Cologne and Stuttgart which suggests to me that the author is trying to make educated guesses. I also wonder how much aviation business background the author has when the new bmi regional Nantes is said to be a new route for BRS - it's not, it was operated by Aer Arann in 2007 - and with Dusseldorf described as previously flown by Aer Lingus when BAConnect was the last carrier (came off the route in 2007 when Flybe took over BACon and axed most of the BRS routes).

this route might be the start of the big expansion they have been on about recently.
lets hope it does all right and does not get dropped like some other routes.

Ryanair has started to release their brs winter 2015/16 schedules. There appears to be a few more weekly frequencies to alc and agp w

Looking at the Ryanair booking engine, the following destinations appear, no flights are showing but interesting:

GNB - Grenoble
NTE - Nantes
OPO - Porto
SNN - Shannon

A total of 33 routes in the booking engine.

We shall have to wait and see what if anything comes forward in the coming weeks/months.

Winter 2015-2016

This winter there will be 55 weekly rotations (with additional ones to some destinations over the Christmas-New Year holiday as in the past). Last winter there were 53 weekly rotations.

There will be 15 destinations served, one more than last winter - Rzeszow has been restored for winter having previously been moved to summer-only. The other destinations are as last winter, viz with last winter's number of weekly rotations shown in brackets after the coming winter's.

Alicante 4 (3)
Malaga 5 (4)
Las Palmas 1 (1)
Tenerife S 3 (3)
Arrecife 3 (3)
Faro 2 (2)
Malta 2 (2)
Budapest 3 (3)
Kaunas 2 (2)
Gdansk 2 (2)
Poznan 2 (2)
Wroclaw 2 (2)
Warsaw Mod 3 (3)
Rzeszow 2 (0)
Dublin 19 (21)

Looking at the timetable it seems that 25 of the 55 weekly rotations will be operated by BRS-based aircraft, although a maximum of two only will be required and even then both won't be fully occupied throughout every day.

This is an improvement on last winter when only 14 of the 53 weekly rotations were operated by BRS-based aircraft.

The work for the BRS-based aircraft is:

Mondays

0625-1225 Rzeszow
0630-1145 Gdansk
1545-2200 Kaunas
1705-2245 Dublin*

Tuesdays

0630-1535 Tenerife South
1705-2245 Dublin*
1805-2350 Warsaw Modlin

Wednesdays

1145-1650 Poznan
1705-2245 Dublin*
1805-2310 Wroclaw

Thursdays

0630-1535 Tenerife South
1705-2245 Dublin*
1805-2350 Warsaw Modlin

Fridays

0625-1225 Rzeszow
0630-1145 Gdansk
1545-2200 Kaunas
1705-2245 Dublin*

Saturdays

0630-1535 Tenerife South
0630-1535 Las Palmas
1625-2230 Alicante
1805-2350 Warsaw Modlin

Sundays

0805-1515 Malta
0810-1315 Poznan
1705-2245 Dublin*
1805-2310 Wroclaw

* There is a long delay at Dublin before the aircraft returns to Bristol. Might be a switch of aircraft.

The long layover will be due to the aircraft operating a W pattern same as last year, I think it was to LPL.

Ryanair has started to release next summers schedules . Some positives in the mix with an extra weekly Venice , extra flights to alicante and Palma plus castellon returns twice weekly but Valencia not yet released ( maybe castellon replacing Valencia)

Valencia seems to cease this month with the last flight on 13th. Castellon appears to be a direct replacement and begins on 16 September.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
