Elmfield on the Humberside forum suggests that Easyjet need loads of 70% on routes to consider them established. Of course there is June figures yet to come but 50% for a brand new route with additional novelty factor in its first month is pretty poor and justifies what we have been saying before.

Im not sure how the other routes are doing but i dont believe they are performing as badly as DUB and AMS.

70% is generally speaking regarded as the industry average load factor for a service to break even. Various other factors also need to be taken into account and those factors will make each airline differ either side of 70%. I would think if the AMS figures stay at their present levels the route is unlikely to continue unless Easyjet has a guarantee with DSA that the route will stay for a set period, obviously any such deals would be between Peel and the airline.

Rumour has it on dried plum that EZY are considering basing three aircraft at DSA from summer 2011 but that DSA is being played against BHX who also want this expansion.

At Business brief the other day given by some feet/base planning director woman.

No new base for at least a year, it's not BCN and no UK airport is on the short list.

As for Doncaster, nothing planned for next year - will we be back, who knows?

A reply by 'EZYdriver' on Proon.

That would be a pity for DSA, but given their track record at losing airlines and routes, no real surprise. It would be interesting to find out their passenger loads on routes out of DSA, compared to (for example) their loads out of LPL or Jet2 loads out of LBA

Their less frequent routes seem to be doing ok. BCN and PRG have good loads, perhaps unsurprisingly. I have'nt bothered to work out the PMI or FAO flights as they're shared with TOM. The AMS route had an average of 92 pax per flight, this is better when compared to the average pax of 75 per flight in June but its still not great.

There are no plans for bhx to be a base. Its an ongoing topic but it is not going to happen for the near future. It was looked at but the yields were better overseas. We are not ruling out more routes from bhx and other uk airports but these routes will be operated from other bases on whatever pattern best suits operational. Emphasis is on productive expansion at man/lgw at the moment. New routes are still planned for man. Deployment of new aircraft to man will be announced accordingly. At the minute there are no plans for Doncaster. Routes are very successfull but the yields are much higher elswhere. Safe flying to all.

Looks like they are leaving DSA after the first week of January, it is being hinted at on a couple of forums.

Im not so sure what message this would send out to other airlines? It doesnt seem like the others are waiting to jump in their place.

Could be wrong though, maybe they will just have a break for a few months? Or was it a Peel deal to encourage a sale to VAS?

Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield Statement

Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield today confirmed that easyJet would not be flying from the airport from 4th January 2011.

Nick Smillie, Aviation Sales Director for Peel Airports, said: “We are naturally very disappointed by easyJet’s decision to withdraw flights from Doncaster Sheffield Airport from 4th January 2011.

“Operational restrictions, largely due to the fact that the aircraft is not Doncaster based, have affected the viability of the operation. For example, the timings of certain key flights have affected their attractiveness to the region’s business community – a key source of passengers and revenues.

“However, where schedules have been favourable, aircraft have been flying up to 99 percent full. This provides us with strong evidence of demand for flights from Doncaster Sheffield.

“We are already talking to a number of alternative airlines regarding these and other potential new routes and are confident that many will be re-instated in the near future.”

This has been another successful Summer for Doncaster Sheffield Airport in terms of the growing leisure market, with new routes already announced for 2011. Despite today’s news, the Airport remains confident that it can build on its existing business, attracting further new airlines and routes in the coming months.

Re: Jet2.com

DSA management say they are talking to 'three other airlnes' to replace the routes EZY are dropping in January. I can only guess that Jet2 are one of them.

Re: Jet2.com

I know they've said that before themselves, but things change. I hope not as i was hoping there was an outside chance of something for HUY in the future. Suppose FR will probably re-introduce Gerona.

they have no bmi routes so scotland? and finnair lol i couldnt think streight it should of being lufthansa (i know a extreemly dumb moment)

Blimey, it's amazing what you can miss with just one week away. It doesn't sound good for Doncaster Airport at all. I can't see Easyjet returning for next summer because they would have made that clear in the press release to ensure that possible customers are not deterred.

It's sad for DSA, but realistically, how many aiports are required in the North of England.

One in Yorkshire, one in Lancashire and one in Tyne & Wear.

Agreed. And then public money should be spent ensuring good surface transport to these airports, preferably by rail, but at least good roads and frequent buses.

Where do you think VAS will go from here? Its got to unsettle them, considering an airline with such a big brand cannot make things work there.

I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?
