Caa Passenger Stats for January 2014

January saw a total of 131,679 passengers used the airport during January up 6.6% on the same month last year.

Rolling year passenger totals for the previous twelve months reached 3,322,548 up 11.9% on the previous twelve months.

All in all a very good month for Leeds Bradford Airport.

Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle airports all had similar percentage increases in passengers during the same period.

Flights down by 5% on January 2013, shows a move to bigger aircraft at LBA is now taking hold as 6.6% increase in passengers. Surprised flights down by this amount as I thought we had cancellation due to weather in 2013.
Unfortunately needed 8% growth to keep on track for 4m in 2015 but not a concern yet.

Whilst optimistic so far as the winter loads are concerned I don't share your optimism for the summer season. With virtually every flight going out full it's unlikely we will see any large percentage growth this summer without further expansion.

I accept were your coming from but in three flights to malaga last year they were sold as 757 but in the end became 737, this covered mar/apl/may and my sons June flight. Most flights were scheduled 757 but swopped to 737 quite a lot of area capicity if they all become 757 flights.
Spend all last year chasing Jet2 as I had paid for extra leg room seats on a 757, thought after the first issue would pick it up but they did not.

The CAA provisional stats for February are due for publication on 17 March although they might be out by 14 March. Other airports have published their own stats but, although broadly in line with those of the CAA, they don't always agree completely.

Bristol, for example, does not count passengers under 2 years of age in its stats but the CAA does.

During February a total of 141,544 passengers used Leeds Bradford Airport up just 0.1% compared with the same month last year.

Rolling year passenger numbers stand at 3,322,356 up 12% on the previous 12 months.

All in all a disappointing month but with new traffic flat-lining it was inevitably going to happen sooner or later.

I believe this is the beginning of a dip in passenger figure which, based on the information we have, is likely to continue during the summer months unless the management have some tricks up their sleeves.

I see the LHR figures are flat when compared to last February. The load factor must be much better. Correct me if I am wrong but last Feb was 4 daily in the work week, compared to 2/3 daily this year.

It will be interesting to see how the AMS figures play out in coming months, given the upgrade to E190.

Last point...the figures for CPH from Humberside were about 400. At five times a week, that can only be 10ish per flight....high yield though.

I thought HUY's CPH flights were just Monday and Friday like ours so that is 4 rotations? Still not good though.

SAS timetable is still showing Humberside to Copenhagen operating 5 days per week, so loads not good but with an average fare of around £500 return guess yields are good.

Also worth pointing out that SAS do use the smaller CRJ200 aircraft on the 5x weekly HUY-CPH route whilst they will use the much larger CRJ900 on the new 2x weekly LBA-CPH service which commences in a few weeks time.....

CAA stats March 2014

171,076 passengers used the terminal in March, down 10.2% on March 2013. Atms were down 12.9%. Rolling 12-month total 3,302,718 up 11.3% on a year ago.

Undoubtedly the later Easter this year was a major factor in the drop in numbers - should at least be partially rectified in April with Easter falling well into the month.

I agree. A combined March & April total for 2013 against 2014 will offer a fairer comparison.

Regarding MAN-ISB. When you take away 2052 seats per week (Air Blue), then its obvious the figures are going to be down. That means LF's on PIA may well be up when taken into account.

That''s right and Pakistan is reportedly already becoming one expensive place to go now PIA have a monopoly. I have a feeling that monopoly wont last long though but the competition is highly unlikely to come from this side of the Pennines.

Thanks for the reply user001 but why would anyone share an opinion on here when there's an element of putting in ones place? My comment wasn't a slight at man; more a view of where LBA stats are hence on the LBA stats page

Im confused. Did you not put:

ISB was over3000 up 1% passenger : figures from MAN to ISB was down 42%. How ironic that we could lose the route when it appears to be performing well.

All I did was explain why the MAN figure was down so much and that in relativity, PIA, the airline in question for LBA's figures, were likely to be up when you take Air Blue into account.

If you feel I was wrong to do that, then fair enough but I make no apologies for doing so.

That has been happening at LBA for many years and is an example of what amounts to consolidation. Years ago, our IT holiday flights were booked solid but at MAN they had over capacity and flights were not fully booked. So ours were axed and the pax transferred to MAN to fill up theirs. Thomson/Britannia did it all the time. When the going gets tough in the airline world, the airlines get going - usually back to their major operating base in the area. Sad, but true.
