Mind blowing figures for LBA. Lets hope the trend continues throughout the year and encourage other airlines to look at expanding into LBA to set up routes not already covered by Jet2 and Ryanair.

This is probably one of the key reasons why TCX, through its economic problems has stayed at LBA!
Fantastic figures anyhow, Summer, I think we can all guess, could be a very busy period.

We actually saw the biggest increase of any airport listed so far, namely 44.2%. Am I not right in thinking that the rolling total is a new record?

CAA Passenger Stats for April 2011

No, not just yet. The YTD figure was higher than 2.88m between July and November of 2008. The highest it's ever been was 2.914m in August of 2008, which isn't much more than now so give it a month or two.

Cheers Radar. I am sure we will break the record in the next 2-3 months.

TOM'S loss,
LS, FR & TCX'S gain! :D

However will the movement & passenger figures for this year top that of the year 2007 where they had 2,881,539 pax, and 39,603 movements! (movements include Private Jet, Position flights?)

I think that airlines are trying to improve their loads on each individual flight, and in doing so are actually reducing the amount of aircraft movements at an airport. LBA has seen a fall in movements but a rise in passengers, leading to higher loads per flight. Jet2's load factor is certainly improving, year on year, since they started operations.
I am surprised that Thomson aren't looking at improving their operations at LBA but as people have said they basically run DSA and will get a great deal at DSA - Landing fee's etc.

Well LBA now has a big jump to reach the 13th largest airport Belfast International which is seeing 4,031,482 passengers a year currently. Thats nearly 1.2 million extra passengers to find.

How they hell do we expect LBA/Bridgepoint to do that when it keeps losing routes like it has recently and mybe about to lose yet another soon??

Not to be a party pooper, but we did have the ash cloud back in April 2010 so the figures will be slightly off, but a great performance nevertheless.

Hi Jason, just about all UK airports were also affected by the ash cloud. Impressive figures non the less.

Those are truly remarkable figures, and could indicate an exceptional summer, provided bookings are good generally.

I think May will suffer a little. For a lot of people, it was possible to take a few days holiday entitlement from work and end up with the chance for an 11 day break. That proved tempting and therefore brought some of the traffic that would have departed in early May forward into April.
One of the weekend departures to Faro with Ryanair went with just 58 passengers in early May and a Malaga with just over 100 on the same weekend. Typically, you would be looking at 150+ on those weekend sectors.

Lets not forget though that the ash cloud badly affected May last year, not just April. I know as I was flying to Canada on the 13th and it was touch and go whether I would or not. Even on the 13th, my flight was re-routed around ash, and whilst I was in Canada, the ash came back and closed airports, including LBA again for a day or two. Based on that I would be very surprised if May didn't show a sizeable % increase again over 2010, particularly with TOM having upgraded their aircraft this summer.

True, I forgot about that. According to lbaspotters daily logs from 2010, the airport closed at 13:00 on Sunday 16th May but reopened at 01:00 on the morning of the 17th.

After this summer we should easily reach 3million passengers, then hopefully once the new terminal has been re-developed there will be more room to handle a lot more passengers. Once the whole terminal has had it's 'face-lift' and the extension is eventually built we should have no problem catching Belfast up.

I love your optimism tomleeds. It's a fallacy that an airport with a bigger terminal equals millions of extra passengers. It's a bit like DSA claiming it will gain scheduled flights to America on the back of having a long runway. It doesn't work like that.

Clearly LBA will be in a much better position to handle more flights once all the terminal work is completed. Even before the main external work has been carried out the airport capacity will have increased with the work that is to be carried out this winter. So this means summer 2012 will see a significant increase in capacity so hopefully airlines will seek to capitalise on this.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
