So here’s my overall views on this:
It’s sad when any business is to close and jobs potentially lost, especially in an industry we all care so much about, but as LBA supporters we should be embracing the boost, or potential boost, this can give us.
It’s great to see that TUI are committing more to LBA, however my concern is away based aircraft and W patterns. This could make timings less appealing and based on their past history why they may turn round in 12 months and say LBA just isn’t working. However the plus to this in the short term is that it gives LBA a further 12 months or so to build more stands ahead of a potential base in 2024 and doesn’t put as much pressure on the current bursting terminal. Hopefully that’s the common sense approach both LBA and TUI have agreed on with this deal.
As has been said, if TUI finally realise that LBA is a serious market player, which it is, then the extra operator will help us grow towards that 7mppa target, so a small step in the right direction.

Time will of course tell where this all ends up but for now is a plus for LBA.
I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that Tui will cancel these flights before the start dates. What will they have lost? They will have the bookings and will simply transfer pax to MAN flights.

Yeah their track record isn’t great at LBA but surely they don’t want to disappoint their customers any further? Already having to use another airport I’m sure customers wouldn’t appreciate having to use another one further away

Given recent reports Tui's customer service I don't think they will be too bothered about letting customers down.

On the contrary, such reports plus an emphasised need to look after their displaced Doncaster passengers could well be the impetus required to improve their customer experience. And, of course, TUI are now up against their biggest rival in the shape of Jet2, making it even more important to look after them.

Time will tell

TUI have used both FreeBird & Sun Express this summer on flights to Turkey so I expect we’ll be seeing these next year. The Tuesday PMI will be Air Europa.

As for timings it’s swings and roundabouts. I’d rather have an early check out(VERY early) of my hotel than have to check out at noon then hang around until 10-11pm for the transfer back to the airport. I had a 0625 flight back to LBA from GRO in 2020. I was home and washing hung out by midday!

Yes its strange feeling when you take a very early morning flight back to the UK from spain, you feel like you have been up all day but yet you arrive back to the uk morning rush hour!

Albastar have done a lot of TUI flights this year I wonder if we might see them next year on the PMIs Aswell.

Correct me if I'm wrong but does this programme put us back to around 1990 levels with the numbers of flights per week or do we need to go even further back.

That is basically the point I was making. Unless things change (they may do) TUI currently view LBA as being like Norwich and that's even after the additional small number of extra flights have been added.
For summer 2022, TUI had bases in ABZ, BFS, BOH, EXT, LTN and NWI with only 1x aircraft based. These bases saw between 9x and 17x weekly departures using both TUI and other operators metal.

If LBA becomes a base for TUI with 1x aircraft based, then we might see between 9x and 17x weekly departures.
If it becomes a 2x aircraft base (like STN in S22) then we might see around 28x weekly departures.
CWL and EMA were 3x aircraft bases for TUI in S22 and saw between 44x and 48x weekly departures.

Hopefully that gives a rough idea of what LBA might expect if any TUI metal is based.

@LBA4EVER I think thats an opinion of early 00's and late 90's. LBA, Jet2 and Ryanair have proven majority of destinations can and do work from LBA with the right suited aircraft type, product and seating capacity - majority of Greek would now sell. And only the very niche wouldn't but the very niche go from the likes of London. Zadar is an example for Ryanair out of LBA.

Italy could work but depends where it is expensive. TUI need volume profitable destinations. If we were to get them they need to also have year round destination for winter so a mixture of Canary Islands (feed cruising), Egypt, Cape Verde would be very successful for TUI imo. Turkey is Summer only so drop Cape Verde and reduce Egypt.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
