Given easyJet's announcement this week of a new Glasgow-Birmingham service, there is speculation that the airline might increase its presence at BHX dramatically, including the possibility of a base.

Whilst a BHX base would probably have little if any effect on diluting easyJet's BRS passenger numbers, as CAA and other stats tend to suggest that relatively few travellers from/to the West Midlands use BRS at all, I don't know what the situation might be regarding availability of aircraft.

Jethro tells us that numerous A320s and A321s are on order for the coming years but it's not easy to work out the net loss or gain in the overall fleet size next year. If some aircraft went to BHX for a base and the fleet size didn't increase by much a lack of aircraft might mean that there could be a question mark over further expansion of the BRS base in the immediate future.

It's possible that with BRS Easyjet might concentrate on growing seats through basing bigger aircraft like the A321 and replace the A319s with A320s.

Im sure there is 2 A321 to join the BRS base in September this year. If this is right im not sure what they will replace.

There is some A319 to leave the fleet. I don't know how many or when they going.

I've copied below Severn's post of last month that will answer your point.

A quick look at Monday 25th November (which is part of the quietest week of Nov/Dec 19 for EZY), and it looks like 15x aircraft are required to operate the schedule:
5x A319s,
8x A320s,
2x A321s!

The 2x A321NEOs will operate AGP, FAO, GLA, CDG and BCN on this Monday.

Yet another great sign from EZY.

That is certainly possible and indeed has started with the introduction of a couple of A321s this coming winter. The downside there is that, unless other routes are downsized in frequency or axed, there would be little opportunity to increase frequencies on a number of routes that would seem to be ripe for it. The doubling of the CDG frequency might be the first of a number route frequency increases.

The airport has said that it wants to grow on the back of increased frequencies on some existing routes, as well as new routes.

I am currently trying to work out the 12 - we know Glasgow, Gran Canaria , Tenerife , Paris , Belfast , faro and murcia. Anyone fill in the gaps ?

This winter will see two daily flights to Amsterdam every day including sat using an Amsterdam based aircraft( one on weds and one on sat evening )
When easyJet's AMS base was opened a few years ago it was said that there would be 3 x weekly rotations to BRS using AMS-based aircraft which together with the BRS-based aircraft flights at that time would have meant a double-daily service. It now seems this has come about.

I note that easyJet is to commence a 2 x weekly Belfast Int to Marrakech (RAK) service this winter.

The airline operated a 2 x weekly RAK route from BRS year-round for four years that always seemed to enjoy high loads. In its last full year at 2 x weekly (2016) the route averaged around 160 passengers per flight throughout the year according to CAA stats.

We know that yield is what counts but it beggars belief that easyJet could not make such a route pay at BRS.

TUI now operates BRS-RAK but only as a once-weekly summer service.

Will keep tabs on that route and see how long till it gets binned.

I’ve been very surprised not to have seen either the return of Marrakesh or agadir with easyJet so far .

:)

You never know with airlines but with nearly 33,000 using the route at just 2 x weekly in its last full year with easyJet it seems remarkable that an airline can't make it pay.

There’s been a few reductions at the start of the winter season - Geneva and basle both have had frequencies dropped whilst Naples and Catania both on a hiatus before resuming at Xmas

Geneva is 4 x weekly in November and then gets back to its usual schedule when the ski season starts with up to 21 x weekly as has been the case in recent years. GVA always used to drop to 4/5 x weekly in November until last year when it was daily. In fact, the average load was 163 last November. I'm not sure if the 320 was used every day but even if it was and assuming 186 seats that's still a load factor of 87.6%, not bad for November, but easyJet either didn't think it brought in a good enough return, or perhaps forward booking for this November is the reason.

Basel is now 3 x weekly this November, 3/4 x weekly in December, 2 x weekly in January and 4 x weekly from February. Looking at last winter's BRS timetables Basel was never more than 3 x weekly in any month last winter.

Catania and Naples are effectively operating in December, February and March, with November and January given the heave-ho. I can't say I'm surprised. I was more surprised when these routes became year-round a couple of years ago.

Away from the ski season routes January is a difficult month with a route like Rome dropping to 4 x weekly in that month. CDG used to even when it was single-daily, but I note at the moment it's still going 2 x daily every day in January except Saturdays which are daily, which was the original advertised frequency.

There has been and still is a lot of uncertainty with Brexit, Ryanair, Thomas Cook, and Flybe amongst other matters. The first batch of CAA stats for July is mixed depending on the airport, but overall it's not painting a booming picture of the industry at present. I would not be surprised to see more reductions this winter, and not just with BRS or easyJet.

I remember the 80s and early 90s when Thomson operated Palma in the winter with Britannia Airways. From BRS PMI ran for the first three weeks in November then didn't return until mid-February. That went on year after year. We used the service for winter holidays quite often then and had to either go in November or from the middle of February. That sort of pattern might be making a comeback with other routes and airlines.

With September nearly here. When are the Airbus A321 due to start operateing and what are they to replace A319 or A320, or are we keeping the extra 2 aircraft.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
