I don't think that £12 to get up 3 hours earlier is enough compensation. If it was in the middle of the day or early evening, 3 hours earlier is not too bad. Could they bring you back on the Friday evening?

The £12 is not compensation. We paid £12 per person more when the flight was booked as a 1050 departure compared with the price now shown for a 0730 departure.

Normally the earlier you book the better the price. I doubt there is anything in the booking conditions that says they can't reduce ticket prices if they so choose. If early morning flights, particularly leisure flights which a GLA-BRS on a Saturday would usually be, are more difficult to sell then I guess it's market forces.

A Friday evening flight would be no good for us.

Yes, at the end of the day with involuntary changes you don’t typically get any refund if your new flight is cheaper - in the same way you would not have been asked to pay the extra if the new flights were more expensive.

They might. They have a habit of going head to head with easyJet at BRS. Prior to the pandemic there were 14 routes from BRS on which the two airlines competed, and most are due to resume some time this year if the pandemic permits.

On the other hand they might look at CWL and/or EXT instead if they want to try to interfere with easyJet on the MLA.

The reason for Ryanair dropping MLA in the first place is intriguing, especially as last winter MLA initially appeared in the Ryanair summer 2021 booking engine at an increased 4 x weekly.

I think that this could be easyjets gain and Ryanair’s loss. But Ryanair could maybe focus on another airport for Malta as said above maybe CWL, EXT or even NQY. I think the reason easyjet have added Malta is because there’s a lot of hope that it will be added to the Green list this week as the people who have given the times have said that this was the reason and delayed putting them on sale. There’s clearly confidence that Malta will be added this time.

Possibly Jet2 might consider a BRS-MLA route when the base gets going.

Ryanair has operated Bristol-Malta year-round since 2009. For much of that time there was competition in summer from Air Malta and either TUI or Thomas Cook (I forget which).

As previously mentioned, Ryanair originally planned to operate BRS-MLA at an increased 4 x weekly in summer 2021. It was then removed from the booking engine followed by a complete removal from the drop-down list.

Apart from the sudden axing of what was apparently a longstanding profitable route from one of the country's most economically vibrant regions, Ryanair also axed their Malta routes from both Cardiff and Exeter, routes that had begun a year or two before the pandemic came along. This meant that there was no Malta route by any airline from the entire South West England or from South Wales. Around seven million people suddenly found that their nearest 'Malta airports' were either Birmingham or Bournemouth.

Ryanair continues to operate to Malta from Birmingham, Bournemouth, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Leeds-Bradford, Liverpool, Luton, Stansted and Manchester, some of which historically had smaller Malta markets than BRS. Incidentally, Belfast International has also been removed from the Ryanair Malta drop-down list in recent months.

easyJet now operating FAO on only four days this week then on two days per week for the remainder of this month. Until the Green List fiasco FAO was shown as at least once daily, more on some days.

July and onwards is currently shown as at least once daily but we will see.

Booking engine currently shows Mondays only for the rest of June and for the first half of July. From Monday 19 July they revert to 2 x weekly (Mon and Thur). That's at the moment. What actually happens going forward is anyone's guess. I would not book anything with any airline at the moment, given the day-to-day uncertainty.

However, we have an escorted rail holiday in Scotland in early September, twice postponed, from May last year and again from May this year. It begins in Glasgow so we have to get ourselves there. A few weeks ago we reluctantly booked return flights with easyJet BRS-GLA-BRS. Within three days easyJet told us that the return had altered its timings from mid-morning to having to get up at stupid o'clock.

I can still see us travelling to Glasgow by train although trying to book ahead with rail at the moment is a nightmare, or even driving to Scotland - perish the thought! We had hoped our long-distance driving expeditions were a things of the past.

In recent years we had already cut back on our leisure flying - no pleasure any more, not that it ever was for Mrs Yokel - and we only really need to fly when going log-haul to Australia for VFR (out of the question currently) and possibly to the USA because of a change in circumstances with part of our close family, which would be ironic given that we had already said to ourselves that we had no desire to visit the USA again. Blood is thicker than aviation fuel.

I do feel so sorry for the present younger and middle-aged generations, many of whom are desperate to travel from these shores. At least most of us older people have had the opportunity to do so easily for the past half-century.

I'm not at all sure that easyJet to Aberdeen and Jersey is good news for the airport.

They only seem to be for the latter part of this summer and are not daily. How that will impact on the existing routes by Blue Islands (Jersey) and Loganair (Aberdeen) remains to be seen.

If easyJet is simply responding to the travel situation this year with no intention of continuing these routes next summer or in winter the airport could find itself struggling for JER and ABZ routes in the future if the current carriers find they are losing travellers to easyJet. easyJet is a commercial organisation and I can understand why they have to take advantage of every scrap of potential revenue possible, especially in these uncertain times, but looking at the broader picture it might come back to bite the airport.

Personally i do think Jersey could sustain Easyjet and Blue islands for a limited period over the summer peak season as i think it's a popular enough holiday route but Aberdeen is quite a surprise.
