The cdg route for u2 is good as its being sold out. But long term is not good as ppl will look elsewhere, and once they have used the route from here there everywhere ppl tend to stick with it. Its very easy to loose custom than to get there custom.
As you say localyokel perhaps bmi will look at doing something on the route.

Looking around a few forums, i notice easyjet are starting a few new routes . most of the new routes we already have at brs. do we know if any new routes are to be announced for brs, or any new routes planned for the near future.

I had the same thought when I read yesterday about new routes to some other UK airports.

I'm not aware of anything in the pipeline. Last year the airline and airport announced a long term agreement that would see growth and new routes. Thus far only Keflavik and Marrakech appear to have been the result of this agreement.

The easyJet A 319 flight from BRS to BCN this morning suffered a lightning strike causing it to divert to Reus.

Further to my previous post re an easyJet A 319 from BRS suffering a lightning strike whilst diverting to Reus from Barcelona, it seems the return working was cancelled (according to the BRS website arrivals page).

The flight was the 0705 hours EZY 6025 with the return EZY 6026 due back at BRS at 1210.

There is an evening rotation to BCN - EZY 6029 at 1840s hours with the return EZY 6030 scheduled back at BRS at 2330. This is also an A 319.

Given that the 156-seater EZY 6025 had 154 passengers it's a safe assumption that EZY 6026 would have been heavily booked too with no opportunity to put them all on EZY 6030 12 hours later which anyway would also have been probably well loaded.

So there might have been/might still be some passengers trying to get to or back to BRS one way or another.

It seems to drop to 2 x daily on three days a week in January but otherwise it's 2 x daily on four days as you say.

Keflavik is 3 x weekly this winter, up from 2 x weekly last winter and this summer.

I agree about Cdg. We've discussed it here before. It's often the case that several sectors are sold out for the following week by the weekend (both sectors tomorrow and Sunday's inbound are already showing 'sold out'). Remarkably they use the 319 on all days except Sunday when the 320 operates.

The fares are usually eye watering so presumably they calculate that it's a tremendous earner as it is so why add more rotations and dilute the yield? The snag might be that more and more people, finding no availability because flights are sold out, are using other airlines/airports and may not come back to easyJet at BRS on the Cdg route.

easyJet passenger figures for July 2014

BRS had its busiest ever day last week in a year that is so far on track to be the busiest ever for passenger numbers. With easyJet by far the largest presence I thought I'd have a look at loads across its BRS network for July, the latest month so far available on the CAA stats website. I know that loads alone don't tell the full story of an airline's successful (or otherwise) presence at an airport but in the context of passenger numbers the figures might be considered to have relevance.

easyJet has eleven aircraft based at BRS this summer - five A320s (180 seats) and six A319s (156 seats) - with a small number of flights operated by aircraft from other bases.

I've set out below the monthly July passenger figures for each route together with the average load to the nearest whole number.

easyJet also operates seven routes in competition with other airlines, mainly Ryanair, and I've shown the total July monthly figures for these routes with the average load across both airlines in each case.

Having initially forgotten Palma I checked the figures this evening. easyJet operates double daily (14 per week) and every inbound rotation from tomorrow until Monday 1 September is shown as sold out except for one of this Sunday's flights. Ryanair's daily (7 per week) Palma is also sold out for the next eleven days on the inbound to BRS.

A number of easyJet's routes are also operated by charter airlines but I've discounted the charter figures for the purpose of this post.

easyJet Keflavik

Someone asked on another aviation website how the Keflavik service was doing. This is my reply on that website which I reproduce here.

The service began on 12 December last year with the A319 (156 seats) shown as the aircraft type in the original press releases. In the event both rotations through last winter (Thursdays and Sundays) were operated by A 320 aircraft (180 seats).

The average loads through last winter were:

February 163
March 151

From April the service continued as 2 x weekly on Thursdays and Sundays with the Sunday rotation a 319 (the Thursday remained a 320).

The average loads through this summer so far are:

April 141
May 131
June 135
July 145

From November the service becomes 3 x weekly through the winter with a Tuesday rotation added. The easyJet booking engine suggests all flights will be on the 320.

No easyJet flights (to anywhere from BRS) are bookable beyond March at this time.

Of course, we have no idea of the most important information - the yield.

I don't know at the moment. I was waiting for the first winter Mayfly in a few weeks time. I imagine the base will drop to its winter complement of ten and would think there would be at least four 320s.

Whilst on the subject of easyJet the rest of the airline's summer 2015 schedule (June onwards) should be published soon. It will be interesting to see what transpires following the interview with Shaun Browne (aviation director) published at the recent Chicago world routes conference when he spoke of 2015 being a 'break-out' year with an enhanced easyJet programme mentioned.

Summer 2015

easyJet has now released flight details across its network for June, July and August next year.

I picked out a week in mid July and it seems that there is a need for eleven based aircraft, as this summer.

The programme is broadly the same as summer 2014 but with one or two tweaks such as Copenhagen dropping from 4 to 3 weekly, Berlin up from 5 to 6 weekly, Geneva up from 9 to 10 weekly, Lisbon up from 4 to 5 weekly, Belfast down from 17 to 16 weekly and Newcastle down from 13 to 11 weekly (although it seems to be 12 until the end of June after which a third Friday flight is removed).

So no sign yet of the imminent easyJet route enhancement mentioned in the article from the routes conference last month.

I have counted it a few times as I thought I had counted wrong, but definitely 8 x A320's. If this is to remain for the winter this would a considerable capacity increase on Winter 2013/2014.

It may be that there is still some crossover between the end of the summer and beginning of winter, albeit as you say Sunday 26 October is the first day of the winter schedule (it's half term week from Friday 24 October so that might be another reason why we might have to wait until the following week for things to become clearer - see below*).

In fact, on that Sunday evening into early Monday morning there would appear from Mayfly to be seven 320s and four 319s coming back to spend the night at base, namely:

A 320 also goes to Malaga at 1920 and returns at 0110 on the Monday morning.

There is an anomaly re Prague. It goes out at 1520 as a 320 but returns at 2235 as a 319. There is a stopover at PRG of three hours (1820-2120) which allows for an aircraft switch. So the discrepancy of eight 320s down to six on Sunday evening is accounted for by the 'loss' of the PRG 320 and the addition of the AGP 320 that comes in after midnight. It still means seven 320s and four 319s on Sunday evening (Monday morning) which is two 319s more than your eight 320s plus two 319s of earlier in the day, although one of the 'extra' 319s is the PRG switch.

Incidentally, on Sunday evening yet another 320 arrives from EDI but is one of theirs and operates the return to Scotland. There is also a 319 from NCL which operates from and to there on Sunday evening.

* I've checked the PRG for Sunday 9 November. Timings are the same (ie three hours at PRG) but the aircraft is shown on seat selector as a 319 both ways.

Last winter there were two based 320s plus eight 319s, although not all were used all of the time every day of the week, so it looks as though there will be more than this during the coming winter however it pans out.

Maybe an increase in the 320 based fleet at BRS is the enhancement mentioned recently in that report from the routes conference in Chicago when some of us were perhaps expecting new routes and even a 12th aircraft for next summer. That could yet happen of course. My guess is that six winter 320s this year will be the maximum of that type based and possibly not even that many. Six 320s and four 319s would certainly add a substantial number of seats compared to last winter.

On twitter, Aviator.aero, it is reported that easyJet is to base 3 x A320's at AMS from May 2015 increasing capacity from the current A319's, also increasing frequencies on key business routes to Basel, Berlin, Bordeaux, Bristol and London.

Bristol's frequencies will see an additional 2 flights to and from AMS per week.

Don't think has been loaded into the flight booking system, the report doesn't suggest what days the additional flights will be on.

I've done a sample check on early June next summer and find that 11 weekly flights are listed: daily with double daily on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, which is the same as this summer.

As with this summer timings suggest they are all operated by BRS-based aircraft.

So if easyJet is to start two more weekly flights using AMS-based aircraft one assumes it will be double-daily each day except Saturdays which will remain daily unless there are plans to make the busiest days 3 x daily.

With KLM's 4 x daily E190s there are already a lot of seats on the BRS-AMS route but passengers numbers are rising each month.

I think the KLM tv advert is a national one and they just slip the local airport's name in at the end in each region. I know there have been similar adverts for CWL.
