It is a bit of a detour to go BHX-CDG/TXL-HEL? Surely they won't get many passengers doing BHX-CDG-HEL-Asia if that is the logic and Helsinki is not a large market as far as origin and destination traffic goes, so not sure of the point of this. Unless it is Finnair seeing how new UK markets could work, as they have previously said they wish to.
I think the point of the code shares is more to test how much demand there is for BHX-HEL. Seeming as CDG has a great deal more flights to Asia than HEL, Finnair would have to offer an exceptional deal to get passengers to transit via HEL rather than CDG, AMS, DXB etc. Bear in mind that if Finnair were to launch a direct BHX-HEL route, they would be in a good position to compete with CDG, AMS, DXB, etc.
Basically, I imagine Finnair are confident that they'd get a decent amount of transfer passengers transiting through HEL. However transfer passengers aren't enough to operate a route so they're testing the water to see how many people would use BHX-HEL as O&D. Combine O&D and transit, and you hopefully get an economically viable route.
