It is a bit of a detour to go BHX-CDG/TXL-HEL? Surely they won't get many passengers doing BHX-CDG-HEL-Asia if that is the logic and Helsinki is not a large market as far as origin and destination traffic goes, so not sure of the point of this. Unless it is Finnair seeing how new UK markets could work, as they have previously said they wish to.

I think the point of the code shares is more to test how much demand there is for BHX-HEL. Seeming as CDG has a great deal more flights to Asia than HEL, Finnair would have to offer an exceptional deal to get passengers to transit via HEL rather than CDG, AMS, DXB etc. Bear in mind that if Finnair were to launch a direct BHX-HEL route, they would be in a good position to compete with CDG, AMS, DXB, etc.

Basically, I imagine Finnair are confident that they'd get a decent amount of transfer passengers transiting through HEL. However transfer passengers aren't enough to operate a route so they're testing the water to see how many people would use BHX-HEL as O&D. Combine O&D and transit, and you hopefully get an economically viable route.

Depending on destination in Asia going via HEL can be a lot shorter going over the Arctic rather than at lower latitudes. Going via somewhere else to HEL puts a big dog-leg into the journey.

I understand that HEL is the ideal connection to Asia and this is precisely why Finnair's flights to MAN and BHX work, the origin and destination traffic is very little and that was why I am wondering why they feel this codeshare will help them, other than the fact they are sniffing around BHX. Some of the flights from MAN, it has been reported all but three passengers are connecting to Japan!

Geneva and Chambery are to be extended through until April 15th.

Flybe has extended its winter ski routes from Birmingham Airport to allow snow sports’ enthusiasts the chance to take full advantage of the off-peak season.

Flights on Flybe’s recently-launched services to Geneva and Chambery will now continue through to 15 April 2017.

Am i correct in thinking SAS had major problems with collapsing undercarriages on Dash 8's a few years ago to
such an extent they and their customers lost confidence in the aircraft and they quickly got rid of them?

They sure did, I think they were the earlier models.

The Flybe ones are the 'new and improved' version, lets hope that this is just a one off.

Living up to their FlyMayBe name again!

They have cancelled the flight we were due out on and shifted to Friday.

Cancelled and booked Ryanair to Dublin and hired a car to get to Galway and back.

Worked out cheaper too !! :)

I thought they were getting better with all this but back to there old tricks by the looks of it. :(

I've been working in Edinburgh when they've cancelled my return flight, made pax wait 2 hours for the next flight, only for that flight to be cancelled and everyone then shipped to Glasgow to get the consolidated flight there.

Had a chat with a friend in Manchester and exactly the same thing happened to him.

Flew with them to Amsterdam and it was the same old story, delays and consolidations.

If I can avoid them in the future, I will. Even to the point of hiring a car and driving the breadth of Ireland to get where I need to get to.

The service is just junk.

If another carrier could pick up the commuter routes, I would book with them first time, every time.

I must say that whilst I've not been a regular flier with them, I have used Flybe on a number of occasions, Aberdeen, Belfast, Keflavik, Glasgow and Amsterdam over the last 2-3 years and can't say I've had any real bad experiences beyond a 20-30 min delay.

Happily use them again, much better than Ryanair

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
