Hello Coathanger16.

Wish I was making it up, the established operators TUI & TCX have no incentive to transfer capacity to BHX as the current situation suites them very nicely thank you.
Needs someone to pick up the batten so to speak, Jet2 could make a killing if they ever went long haul over and above New York shopping trips.

Funnily enough, we looked at going to Florida this summer. We have tight timing requirements, so BHX couldn't help us. Then we looked at LHR and MAN; more choice of flight times, but then thought better of it. Why spend 2hrs travelling 120miles when you can spend them travelling 1000 miles? For us it's a no brainer, particularly with 2 young children, so we're going to Majorca from BHX this year.

In short, we're people with a few grand to spend, who fancy a couple of weeks somewhere sunny, and it's not going to Virgin or TCX. If you want my business, come and get it!

they clearly think that either Midlanders are happy to travel to Manchester/Gatwick,

Whilst passengers keep on being prepared to travel out of our region for their holidays I'm sure that the airlines will sit back and rub their hands with glee. It must be a real dream for them having their customers travel all that way to them, rather than them having to take their product to their customers.

We also considered Florida this year and as a possibility for next year but likewise we couldn't make it work. We'd have gone for the Easter break but with Birmingham's only flight being on a Thursday it was useless for the kids. What genius thought about putting a flight to a destination heavily influenced by kids on a Thursday when schools break up on a Friday?

That said, it is consistently full, which is even more annoying.

Good on you DaveBham. I hope they read this - perhaps tell them?

No pleeeeeeze, tell the travel agents, swamp them with requests to depart BHX, eventually the penny will drop and some airline planner should see the potential.

I know the BHX Avgeeks are to say the least "vociferous " so please do contact Lilian Greenwood new chair of the Transport select committee.

Despite being a new broom (literally ) her first comment in post was a "rush" to get Heathrow rw3 up and running!

It shows how ingrained Heathrow is on the national psyche!

Absolutely unbelievable given;

A) she has only been in post a week
B) should be impartial
C) No mention of the eye watering cost?

Could Birmingham not do with the odd £1bn

Yep, I know sometimes it feels like our so called leaders think Brum is in the Artic Circle so god knows where Manchester is in their world but it's a bit like howling at the moon down here.

Regards rollo.

Off with his head !
I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I must say the tattoo and the grandad by 33 part does make you wonder, plus the fact that in the families version of events they seemed keen to make a point that the people supposedly responsible for the incident were Polish. I can't think that a plane load of passengers, the cabin crew and the Spanish police would have all been wrong. Oh and they were from Coventry

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
